From the moment we arrived to the minute we left - everything was disappointing. We looked forward to having a great meal at the much hyped Leafy Greens and were quite excited to find a vegan restaurant. We decided to make the trip out to Casalinga and knew that something was up when we got there. Firstly, understaffed with only 2 waiters. It took someone 15 minutes to finally get to us and we placed our drinks order (2 juices and 1 bottle of sparkling water), with our starter and mains order - all at once to make it easier for the restaurant. We waited 25 minutes from the order was placed to receive our drinks order - on a very sunny day this was not a great start. Surely, it only takes 2 - 3 minutes in such a small venue to fetch a sparkling water from the fridge and serve with 2 glasses. We waiter another 20 minutes for our food to come - the mains arrived before the starters. Our pulled mushroom burgers had gone cold with hot chips - this means that the burgers were left on the pass (if they have one) while the chips were made - no timing in this kitchen. Even though the burger filling was tasty, we would have preferred hot food. The starters were served after our mains - and it was only for 2 guests. The tofu was supposed to have a sesame crust (it sounded delicious on the menu), but no sesame in sight. We did not eat it. We were not attended to properly, the service was spectacularly bad and I would definitely not return unless they get their act together. This is a failure in hospitality and it is clear that there is no proper management with the new owners. This restaurant is not worth the drive and I heard someone in charge apologising to more than 1 table for something that went wrong. At this rate, Leafy Greens will not last as guests expect...
Read moreVery upset. Vegan for 2 years and the waiter served me a drink with cows milk in it. I could smell it on the cup and when I asked about it I found out I had been given cows milk. (All I was told by the actual manager was - "all I can say is sorry" - nothing more, nothing less)
VEGANS BEWARE!
This restaurant is NOT what it used to be. Over the years they have slowly started serving animal products in their foods and beverages like bees honey and cows milk. By DEFAULT the waitress gave me my malted carob drink with cows milk in it (without even asking me what I would prefer, and me ASSUMING they are still a vegan restaurant, as I have been a patron for years).
Staff seem to be becoming more and more poorly trained - general poor service and with very little to no awareness or understanding of veganism. They make jokes and question you (as a vegan customer at a "vegan friendly" restaurant) if you don't want cows milk in your drinks.
The food quality has also declined along with the mentioned poor service and "surprise" cows milk and bees honey inside of your meals and beverages - with the prices continuing to rise (R145 for a small plate and R195 for a regular plate of buffet food).
Leafy Greens is sadly moving further and further away from what it originally was (as the name "Leafy Greens" implies), and has lost my trust and loyalty as a vegan customer.
As other reviews mention - support 100% vegan restaurants like Conscious 108 or Greenside Cafe instead, as these places are 100% vegan and need our support as vegans in a mainly...
Read moreGreat food, pathetic service. This was my second visit to Leafy Greens. When we arrived, the waiter at the entrance asked if we had a booking. When we said we did not he suggested that since the restaurant was so busy, the best thing would be for us to get takeaways from the buffet and eat our lunch outside the restaurant under one of the trees! We did not dress up and come out to eat our lunch on the grass under a tree. We were not even offered to be put onto a waiting list. My husband declined this and said we would wait for a table. The waiter said we would have to wait about half an hour. After 20 minutes we returned and went into the restaurant this time and were surprised to find MANY empty tables, and all of the patrons were of a certain race. We felt that the issue was probably that the waiter simply did not want to serve us in particular, possibly because we are an Indian couple?? When the waiter realised that we were going to ask another waiter for a table, he suddenly offered us a table. Very strange how so many tables (at least 10) became available within 20 minutes. He then dumped menus on our table and disappeared. We had to find another waiter to serve us. A very upsetting experience. Unfortunately we did not manage to get the name of that waiter but he was a white man with tattoos on both arms. I hope he will be reprimanded so that other patrons do not have to be treated in this manner. Once again, VERY DISAPPOINTING.
An...
