Lovely vistas', cute ducks and prime cuts - This little stop has it all. The restaurant offers 2 lovely areas to sit in where you overlook the dam and watch the fish burble at the surface, the geese and ducks herding their chicks and a variety of birdlife flit through the trees.
In the shop there are many things on offer from jams and sauces to garden and xmas ornaments (It is that time of your at the moment) - The main block where the shop is is also host to an antique furniture store, a biltong and cured meets delicatessen and an art shop which is stocked with one of the best collections for sale outside of Johannesburg I have seen for a while!
Behind the main block is a book shop that boasts, not only books, vinyl-records, CD's, DVD's, magazines and a few XBox games - the variety is endless, but the shop is extremely hot in the midday sun, so go early if you wish to browse for a while, it is really worth it.
The the left of the main building are 3 little boutique shops offering African garments, curios and antiques.
This is not a stop, but an entire trip! Go early and stay late, browsing through all of these magnificent shops - buy something small or something big if the mood takes you.
A fund day on...
Read moreI've lived in the area for 30years and have been coming here for as long as I can remember. While the food is decent and the venue is pretty, service is mediocre at best and the prices are outrageously high. Seems that the prices are more aimed at tourists and are less and less orientated towards locals (Saffers). It is far removing itself from a casual family restaurant and shifted into Pappacinos in the country. No where, except the likes of Sandton-type areas has Chicken Mayo and Avo tramazzinis for R98.00, or Jaffels (for those that don't know what a Jaffel is, it's a toasted sandwich made in an iron mould, cooked either over a flame or in the oven) for as much as R79.00. A basic Bunny Chow is R125.00... For an establishment that has been in the area this long and has as much traffic as it does, I feel this place has removed itself from a fair market and my list of recommended go-tos. Such a disappointment. Safe to say I ain't gonna visit Maggie's...
Read moreI've been here a few times in the last 4 years because of the awesome outdoor experience and zipline and trampoline for the kids. I always order the same dish. Today I was disappointed with the chicken and mushroom pie served with chips. In the past the chips were potato wedges and were delicious. Today they were simply French fries. Even the side salad was better in the past. The salsa served with the pie used to be served in a full cup. Today it was half a cup of salsa. When we requested more sauce we were charged for this. My child commented that the pies were smaller. The service here has always been slow but you excuse it because of the outside atmosphere and gazing at the ducks. Waiters do not pay attention to small details. Today our cutlery caddie did not even have enough forks for all of us at the table. This is the most basic training a waiter should get! I will think twice about spending my hard earned...
