We were super excited to visit O's after reading reviews and receiving recommendations from our guesthouse hosts.
Unfortunately, O's ended up ruining our anniversary dinner with their inattentiveness and lack of service.
After dropping off our food, which was incidentally, not that great (the veg was soggy carrots and a nondescript brown sludge that may or may not have been cabbage and potatoes. The steak was obviously a cheap cut despite their higher than average prices), our waiter disappeared for over an hour.
My husband had to walk up to the building to request serviettes. He mentioned that we needed more drinks to the manager, but she never bothered to do anything about it.
Eventually, we asked another waiter for a bottle of wine, and we are waiting for it until this day. Then we asked another waiter to just bring our bill (we were over it at this point) and she never even returned to the table. We were not the only ones begging the waiters for service, the tables on either side of us battled as well (but we seemed to battle the most).
We finally received the bill after waiting another 20 odd minutes, but no card machine was brought despite asking for this beforehand. In the end we paid at the desk, despite being sorely tempted to leave without paying after everything.
The manager didn't really apologize, just processed payment and made the excuse that they had many large tables. As someone who is involved in the hospitality industry myself, this excuse is pathetic. The solution is simple: roster enough waiters and do proper planning, especially since large tables are normally booked in advance.
We left hungry, thirsty, and disappointed in what should have been a romantic, pleasant anniversary dinner. And they knew beforehand that it was our anniversary.
Their only saving grace is the setting, which is right on the river, and the fact that they allow dogs. Still, I'd rather eat dodgy roadside fish and chips than visit this restaurant again. At least you know what you...

Inside is so atmospheric and rich in expectation. 😁😁 18.8.2020 Customer of my sis order pizza take-away and I need to say again Don't believe anything I say but please, please believe this: There is not a place in South Africa that make better pizza than O's Restaurant. My father knows the owners, they were neighbours of his for many a moon, many years ago. Have a lovely day people. 😊😊
13/03/2021 Went to O's again today with old colleagues of my late husband. What an awesome group. We had pound seats right next to the river. Our waitress-angel's name was Taryn. Lovely, lovely young woman. I ordered what she suggested: Pork neck steak with mash and veggies. I usually DO NOT eat pork nè?! 😁 You were spot-on Taryn. My-my, yet again O's excelled at the dish. (Mystery question: who IS the chef and other kitchen staff?) They make food right from heaven. Oh and I had a Klippies and Coke just for the heck of it! 😁😁😁
PLEASE NOTE: I HAVE ALREADY FLAGGED TWO OF THE PHOTO'S AS INAPPROPRIATE. NB I deleted the photo's.
7 May '21 I wanted to give a thousand word essay an 'Ode to O's' but EVERYBODY who is anybody knows them by now. So....... I will let the photo's and one amateur video speak for itself. Next time the video's will be better. (I need to get to Level 7 asap😁) Oh, sorry O's I stole some of your fallen autumn leaves, your wine was excellent, thanks for the lady bug that visited us (good luck for me), my sister tried covering up 'David' also, his leaf was nowhere to be seen.... Jean-Marie and ultimately our lovely waitress, Emma, were top notch. And...thank you for ordering the rain, my best day so far this whole year and....... I need your music playlist for my phone. Most relaxing, enjoyable instrumentals ever. PS I need to find out how to post video's. O, we had the Bohemian...
