Our reservation was 7pm, Friday 10 Nov.
Enjoying the views, the live music and buzzy deck, it was all set up for a great evening. Beers to start, and then ordered a bottle of wine, to go with Tacos and a full portion mussels.
The tacos were great, but the mussels were super peppery... To the extent where it was so overwhelming that we figured it had to be a mistake. After trying a couple, with dark/burnt toast, we called the waiter.
Explaining that it was a long way from what we had previously, he eagerly wanted to correct it with the kitchen.
When the "corrected" portion arrived, the following was noted: Mussels were cold and watery, to the point where we believe our previous portion was rinsed off before added to the sauce The sauce was watery and sour, with overwhelming amounts of fresh parsley(just about inedible) 3 slices of bread arrived un-toasted. We did not want to complain again... never pleasant to do so.
We finished the plate with most of the sauce remaining untouched(last time we just about licked the plate out).
When a lady waitress arrived she asked how it was. We told her that we should probably have kept to the peppery version. We further on explained that we were planning to order more wine and food, but that this was obviously not a good night for the chef. Asked for the bill, and mentioned that it was disappointing, as everything the place offers was downed by the 2nd attempt at a meal we really looked forward to.
10 minutes went by, no bill, no waiter. We went to the front to ask for it. Our original waiter appeared from a door, printed the bill, put it on the table and left.
Not sorry for the wait, not an apology for the experience, not a thank you for the tip, not a chef or a manager keen to discuss the potential loss of a customer.
Needless to say, this was the final nail. We will not be visiting Thorfynns again, not to host guests, not for date nights, not...
Read moreI wanted to go treat my girlfriend to a nice meal at a fancy restaurant. We thought that this restaurant would have been a good choice because of the amazing views and good looking menu. We were sadly wrong. From start to finish we felt like we had been forgotten about.. We booked a week prior to get a table with a view. As we got there, they had seated people at our table so they sat us next to the smoking section with hardly any view. We waited for 30 minutes until I walked to the front to get the menus myself, only to find our that they were out of menus. It took another 10 minutes for it come and we ordered drinks before because we didn't want to wait any longer to see the drinks menu. We then ordered starter which took about 45 minutes to come. We ordered the soup and the bruschetta which was really underwhelming even to a student's standards. At this point in time we hadn't even ordered mains and we had already been there for almost 2 hours. We ordered our mains in a take away because we were just completely over it by that time and wanted to go home. I had expressed my thoughts to 2 of the on floor managers who told me that they would talk to who ever was in charge. Finally when I asked to speak to him, he told me that this was the first he even heard of it. This completely ruined the evening and I will not be going back.. I have truly never had an experience like this in my...
Read moreThorfynns Restaurant is the kind of place where the view alone could be the main course, yet the food more than holds its own. Perched high above Noordhoek Beach, the deck offers one of the most breathtaking dining panoramas in Cape Town, endless ocean framed by mountains, with sunsets that feel almost cinematic. The menu is hearty and unpretentious, with standouts like their fresh seafood, perfectly wood-fired pizzas, and generous breakfast platters.
I love how the atmosphere shifts with the time of day, mornings are bright and calm with the sound of birdsong, while evenings are golden, romantic, and alive with conversation. Service is warm and attentive without being intrusive, making you feel welcome whether you’re a resort guest or just popping in for a meal. Their seafood is fresh, the pizza bases have that perfect crispy chew, and the coffee is strong enough to keep you lingering over the view.
On cooler days, the indoor seating with its rustic wooden charm and cozy fire feels just as inviting as the deck outside. This isn’t just a place to eat, it’s a place to slow down, soak in your surroundings, and leave feeling more connected to the beauty of Noordhoek. A true gem on the Cape...
