We were terribly disappointed with our dinner at Nguni... We hadn't been for a couple of years and we were really looking forward to visiting again as our previous experiences had been excellent. Sadly, Nguni has lost it's charm and it's quality of food has gone down terribly. The restaurant lacks atmosphere as well.. We first ordered a bottle of wine to share and were given 2 different size wine glasses. Not just slightly different - ridiculously so. After looking around the restaurant, we could see that there was not one table that had matching wine glasses. Our cutlery came wrapped in serviettes and the one serviette had stains on it.. We ordered our food and this is where our real dissappointment came in. Food was very not of a decent restaurant standard. All 3 of our meals were served luke warm and the plates they are served on were ice cold (the black steak plates that are supposed to be hot). I ordered a steak with pepper sauce and veggies. Besides the steak being nearly cold, the sauce had zero flavor (I had to grind pepper into it) and it wasn't a sauce but more like a lumpy bowl of curdled cream. The green beans were served in a very bland sauce as well.. My daughter's prawns were very overcooked and inedible. The mussel pot was mostly sauce and there were hardly any mussels.. Our waiter was however very friendly ans we cannot fault him.. We asked if the place was under new ownership and he said that it was the original owners from many moons ago.. So we are not sure what has caused the place to fall apart so badly.. will we back? Sadly, no. My husband says he would rather go to Spur, and that says a lot..

I recently ordered from Nguni Grill and, unfortunately, the experience was a bit disappointing. The pizza dough, in particular, was not up to standard—it was dry and clearly lacked the necessary fermentation, which affected the overall texture and taste. However, the pizza toppings were quite good, and I appreciated that they didn’t use barbecue sauce as it is the norm with a lot of restaurants, allowing the other ingredients to stand out. The wings were another letdown. While they were large, they were tasteless, lacked proper seasoning, and, to make matters worse, were not thoroughly cooked. One significant issue I noticed is the extensive menu offering. With so many options available, it seems the kitchen might be stretched too thin, making it difficult to consistently deliver high-quality dishes. I would suggest they consider downsizing the menu to focus on fewer items done exceptionally well.

The welcome was okay!!!! The waiter was very nice.. Went on the Sunday lunch at Nguni Grill.. Thought we would have a great Sunday buffet, seeing though there's hype about it.. This place needs a new chef, they need to get Hell's Kitchen on board to come and investigate the food here.. Nothing here is nice.. Saw one of the managers touch the food with his hands in the buffet table.. The ribs where cold, the chicken was cold and they only served white meat.. The dessert was the worst nothing made sense there.. it was just off.. Everything was just off about this place.. Never gonna see me again here.. What a worst of R150.00

I visited Polokwane on the weekend of the 11th May from Cape Town. I was with my son and his GF whom I seldom see so it was a bittersweet moment as I was also there to bury my Mother who had just passed. Out of all the choices we had to choose we chose your restaurant as we had eaten there last year and we enjoyed it and decided to visit again. We had a delightful young waitress and she took our orders. Three 400g rump steaks all medium rare with sides of creamed spinach etc. My son had a Draft beer his GF a coffee of sorts and I a Coke. I stressed to put waitress that the steaks needed to be pink in the middle and not well done and she noted. The food arrived and all our steaks well grilled to death!! Completely well done! I called her over and we pointed this out and she agreed that it was not acceptable and offered to return them as she had not only written the order down but also verbally communicated with the kitchen how we had asked our steaks to be prepared. My son and GF opted to just eat theirs as they were hungry as they left Joburg at 04:00 and had not eaten. I agreed to have mine returned in the hope of getting what I had ordered. Two minutes later and a bald "Manager" arrives with a plate and steak. He continues to tell me that it was a new steak and apologised for the error and hopes I enjoy my meal and walks off. As I proceed to eat I realised that it was the exact same steak as I had cut it in two separate places to check how it was prepared. He essentially gave me the same steak in the hope that I would not notice it!!!! This made me extremely angry as it was the most dishonest thing I have ever experienced in a restaurant!!! He tried to con and bamboozle me! At that point it made me realise that this was normal practice in this restaurant!!! He was arrogant when I caught him out! By then our lunch experience and time together was ruined by this dishonest person!! How many people have they conned at this restaurant????? I was angry and so raised my voice towards him which I later regretted. The other manager was great in trying to rectify the situation but it was too late...the deed was done!!! We just wanted to pay and leave as we were disgusted by the conduct of this manager. He was dishonest and he ruined a potentially great experience as a family but ruined my second visit to this restaurant!! Polokwane does not have many options but I sure as hell won't recommend this one. To the credit of the waitress and the other manager, they were great and tried hard to fix the situation but I was angry and to them I want to apologise for my anger. The manager also insisted that I not pay. To the other staff present I also apologise. To the offending manager, I hope that you know what you did and that you ruined my experience of what I thought was a great place and that the owners are aware of your...

4.5/5 Star Review for Nguni Grill

Nguni Grill is a fantastic spot for a great meal, offering a warm atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent service.

The menu has a great variety, from succulent steaks to perfectly grilled seafood, all cooked to perfection. The flavors are rich and well-balanced, and the portion sizes are generous. Their signature dishes, especially the grilled meats, are definitely worth trying.

The ambiance is inviting, with a relaxed yet classy feel, making it ideal for both casual outings and special occasions. The service is friendly and attentive, with staff ensuring you have everything you need without being intrusive.

The only small reason for not giving a full 5 stars is that during peak times, service can be a bit slower—but given the quality of the food, it’s worth the wait!

Overall, Nguni Grill is an excellent choice for a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended, and I’ll...
