I am beyond disappointed with the customer service we received at Prashad. Two weeks ago, we visited their restaurant at Baxter Theatre and ordered food to take home after the show. They instructed us to purchase the food before the show because they would be closed afterward. They assured us that they would keep it in the fridge and have someone give it to us after the show. They also assured us that they usually do this. However, after the show ended, there was no one available to provide the food we bought. We asked everyone still there, but no one had seen any food left for us, so we left empty-handed.

We understand that miscommunications happen, and we would have been understanding if they had simply given us the food the next day. We called them and returned to the restaurant multiple times without success. Finally, a few days later, the owner responded, saying she would investigate. For the next 1.5 weeks, despite our daily follow-ups, the only response we received was, 'I will get back to you tomorrow.' We're only talking about one dinner here—how can it be so difficult to fulfill?

Yesterday, after another follow-up, we were told, 'I have handed this problem over to someone else who will call you today.' Unfortunately, we did not receive a call.

I have never experienced worse customer service in my...

A definite must try!!! Whether you are Vegetarian, Vegan Or Not!!!

This hidden gem has delicious home made foods. (I personally am a sucker for their butter chicken 🤤 gosh) They run student specials and their price rage for the quantity and quality of their meals are fair.

Although...

Recently I had gone to get some butter chicken and the service was really bad... The service is originally a bit slow, but it's worth the wait... The cashier served a guy that came after me (He did not know who was there first because no one was in the front section at the till) ... AND He forgot to put the order in for my drink.

I was in a bit or a hurry then he suggested I take something else 🤔... Okay So I tried the Mango lassi (which I personally would never suggest to any human). It is a ready made and stored Mango liquid with a yogurt base... It was basically warm Mango yogurt mixed with a tiny bit of milk... Or that is what it taste like

Anyway, it was a bit upsetting that I did not leave with my Bombay Crush 💁🏻‍♀️

On the bright side...

It's was my first time to experience bad service from this restaurant...

It will always be 'the go to' one those lazy days when wanting a nice cooked meal but just not in the mood to do anything.

Your kids and family won't even realize it's not...

So I finally got to try Prashad, yesterday. Being wanting to stop over and try their veg. menu.

I ordered the Dal Tadka for a sit-in. The meal normally comes with rice but the waitron was ever to ever willing to swop it out for a roti, as that is what I preferred.

When the meal arrived, it was piping hot, you can tell it was freshly prepared, as with the roti too.

The Dal was just like hole cooked and I thoroughly enjoyed it. One roti was not enough and I had to order another. It took a bit of time coming to the table and that's because they had to make the Roti fresh on thawa, no cold roti waiting to be served.

I can honestly say, if judging by the Dal, which may be a very simple dish, but it's a test (for me at least) to tell whether the restaurant can cook pukka (South African) Indian and Indian food, that this is a venue I will most definitely come back to.

If I am to find fault, then the only thing I can fine is that the (small) portion vs (high) price ratio, but I've grown accustomed already to know that Cape Town is on a different price level, as compared to Durban, so have accepted that small fact. So on saying that, it is what it is, but that doesn't take away from the meal...

BEST INDIAN FOOD IN CAPE TOWN (esp. vegetarian/vegan)! An unassuming but cozy and homey spot, this place stole our hearts by way of the stomach – yummy samoosas, delicious masalas & dosas, and a chocolate cake that’ll take you right back to a birthday in young years! Also, Prathap & the team are absolute champs at hospitality done right – impossible to miss their passion for delicious food & super friendly service! We’ve been back so many times that it almost feels like a second home. While we enjoy the spot being a bit of a well-kept secret, we’d rather tell you all, to keep the Prashad success story on trajectory! 📈 So go eat at Prashad’s & thank me later 😉 P.S.: Yes, I know Thali, and that place is in its own league, but when you’re not looking for a *food experience* but a top-notch, à la carte, friendly meal (& at an unbeatable rate!), then Prashad’s your spot!

I am a BIG fan of the awesome vegetarian food served here. But now I am even a bigger fan after receiving my takeaway in paper-based containers. No more plastic containers or cling film to deal with any more as a customer. This is the only way how we can #breakfreefromplastic - with the help of retailers and food producers. Join the "Free from Plastic in SA" campaign on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to call out businesses who drown consumers in plastic waste, or give a shout out to those like Prashad Café who make the switch to sustainable packaging. Thank you!!
