Table at De Meye.
Upon arrival you travel along a gravel road. As you enter through the wonderful trees, you're greeted by all things nature; birds chirping away and if you're lucky, a cool breeze rustling the leaves - you've escaped the concrete jungle. Peace at last.
Your eyes catch fellow diners under the umbrella of the trees, protected by their shade, a sense of calm washes over you.
You are directed to your table, with much anticipation, the menu a total mystery which certainly stirs some excitement as you enter the unknown.
I was trying to see what was served on other tables, but at the same time didn't want to spoil the surprise - in this review, I'll try not share too many menu details.
We were greeted by, Fortunate, our waitress for the day. Her attentiveness and bubbly sense of humour was so welcome. She made sure we were always comfortable and happy. The service is phenomenal, the wait staff float around you like butterflies.
Then there's the food, my oh my! The starter, a bread course with many accompaniments was sensational. I could have honestly just eaten that all day. The mains, were plentiful, each dish showcasing the ingredients and one can certainly taste the care and love that has gone into the preparation. We as a table could not fault a single dish - perfectly seasoned, well balanced and utterly scrumptious. The care and planning that goes into each day's menu is remarkable, from texture, to balance of flavours and pairings - yay! ❤️ The dessert was light, textural, cooling and just bloody wonderful. Not overly sweet. How we found space in our bellies 🤷♂️ but we did.
The wine on offer is lives up to the standard of the food, the cabernet franc was dangerous drinkable and unfortunately I nominated myself as driver for the day so I only got a few sips 😅.
If you enjoy food, being outdoors under the trees in a relaxed setting, completely at peace and having long lunches, then you absolutely have to try...
Read moreThe Table at De Meye is truly a special experience when visiting Cape Town. This was our 2nd time visiting for lunch and it didn’t disappoint. The environment that’s created here is hard to put into words. They’ve truly embraced home style cooking, being together with friends and family, and making guests feel comfortable. Each item on the menu is carefully thought out to create an entire meal and really an experience for diners. It’s amazing because you’re familiar with most of the ingredients on the table but they’re cooked and combined with new ingredients that makes it fun yet very enjoyable. Part of you feels like you’re eating at mom’s house but at the same time it’s a few levels above mom’s dinner table.
My favorite part is Leigh. She really brings the whole experience together. How she welcomes guests, how she checks in on you but also doesn’t make you feel like she’s tracking you. She makes you feel like you’re a long time friend who’s back for another visit. A few times I caught her standing back and just observing all of the tables and guests from afar in the beautiful autumn sun. Orchestrating when each table would receive their next course and when her team should attend to them. The pure joy on her face as she watched the hard work of the team at The Table is just one of those moments that you don’t always get to see from those who run the show.
L & B, you both have created a truly special experience that really tops anything else. We can’t wait to return again on our...
