……Today we final-lii made it to drop in here as we always just pass-by and take note of the Big Display-Sign “KLEIN ROOSBOOM WINERY/ JE’AN DELI” facing the Durbanville Main road. The drive to the parking area is rather short but on arriving you find yourself in a massive area allocated for parking and then you see the side of the restaurant. The scenery is impressive as you notice the vine-yards belonging to Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery. The walk to the main entrance take you via some beautiful well maintained gardens. At the entrance you are made aware of the fact that they do have their Covid-19 Safety Protocols in place, notices that encourages wearing of Face-Mask, there is a Sanitiser Dispenser on the wall and the fact that social distancing is a must. The young friend-lii lady at the reception area cordial-lii welcomes you and escort you to your reserved table inside or outside as we original-lii booked for outside but it rained the previous night so they were only seating patrons inside the big restaurant area on your way there you pass a rather big bar-counter that looks impressive with all the wine bottles lining the back-wall and not only this but also the well spoken of and advertised “DELI” where you can see all the goodies that are on sale there, wines, utilities to use in the kitchen, aprons, etc and more so the “treats made of sugar and spice and all things nice” cakes of many colours sizes and descriptions, fresh-lii bake breads, even hand-made potato and vegetable crisp, just to mention but a few things, etc, etc. (It is good to see that they have a good compliment of staff who seem to be bubbling over with enthusiasm to serve and make your visit very memorable and worthwhile). Our waiter was Izak who was friend-lii serving and caring for us very professional-lii. They have a nice Breakfast Menu folder offering 8 different meal choices; - 1. Lemon Ricotta & Honey Buckwheat Pancakes 2. Breakfast Bruschetta, 3. Truffled Asparagus Frittata, 4. Napolitana Baked Eggs, 5. Ciabata French Toast. 6. Tuscan Style Farm B-Fast. 7. Venetian B-Fast Bagel. 8. Breakfast Pizza. With choices like this and not even sounding like breakfasts it was real difficult to make a choice but we had to start somewhere. Our drinks were a cappuccino, flat-white and an Americano with hot milk. Our breakfasts were 1. TUSCAN Style Farm B-fast @ R 130 (Poached farm eggs with Italian sausage-meatballs, salsa crude and olive focaccia). 2. VENETIAN B-fast Bagel @ R 120 (Grilled streak-ii bacon, fried farm egg, roasted tomato relish, wild rocket, sliced avocado with salsa verde) On presentation these meals did not look like breakfast, the meats-balls were very herb-ii and the salsa crude just broke down that pungent taste. The bagel was so well loaded and when you opened it up for closer inspection you were total-lii overwhelmed by what you saw. Both meals were a new kind of breakfast experience for us and it was insidious-lii delicious. We will have to return here in the future to savour the other meals and even to try the lunches. NB! They have guest WiFi, the toilets are very neat, clean and user friend-lii, there are a couple of swings outside for the kids to play on. Kiddies chairs are on hand also. And a visit to the deli is a must even if you are going to find it difficult to make a choice of what to buy and take home as there is just way to many good and delicious goodies on offer. We had a fabulous time here and will high-lii recommend this...

I went there for lunch with some family friends. The restaurant is located in the Klein Roosboom wineyard.

Positives:

They have a limited but well crafted, seasonal menu. The plating of each dish was stunning and the chefs clearly know what they are doing.

We got 2 sirloin steaks and they came with delicious "burnt onion puree" and their fries were thick, fluffy and crunchy. The pork belly was flavourful and the fresh fruits complimented the meat well.

Negatives:

We ordered a medium and a medium rare steak. Both were not as tender as expected. The medium was particularly tough to chew and the medium rare had tough parts too.

We also got 2 lamb burgers. They were quite dry and the beetroot overpowered the pattie flavours. We felt that it did not really provide any meaningful taste or texture to the burger.

The pork belly needed something to balance out its sweetness. Eventually it just felt like eating fatty meat dunked in honey glaze. Some rice would have been a great pair to this dish. Service was a bit slow but the waitress was friendly.

Overall, this serene restaurant offers beautifully presented dishes at premium prices. Even though we were let down by some of our food, we still enjoyed our time and appreciate their effort in making the place look picturesque...

I love the views at Jean. However when I first went there I was told they only served pizza on a weekend, which I accepted and ordered a flat bread. When I returned on a Saturday and wanted to order a pizza after receiving a menu with the pizza options on. I was told they only serve pizza for take aways. When I asked for one for a takeaway I was told they won't be able to prepare one as they only have limited bases. There was also no flat breads available anymore only very lare meals or side plates. Just to walk to the bathroom and found that the table next to us had a pizza served to them at the table. When bringing it to the waitress' attention she just said the people pre booked the pizza when they booked their table and tgat they were going to sit on the grass but asked for a table in the restaurant instead. Making exceptions for one group of people and not for others left us feeling very unimpressed with the service. The excuses for not serving us a pizza were poor and no effort was made to then ask if they can bring us a pizza. I was really disappointed with the service and limitations of the menu without clearly stating the prerequisites. We also booked a table and would have booked a pizza if we knew...

Maybe I walked in with way too high expectations reading all the fantastic reviews. The view wasn't really spectacular from the table inside the restaurant. I am certain it would be a lot greater from the outside seating. You are not looking down the vineyard but rather on the eye-level with the vineyard. My quinoa bowl was beautifully presented. The portion was huge and I only got to finish about a half of it. It would have been more helpful if the waiter explained the portion size difference between 'small' and 'full'. He explained to us that the small size is an appetizer portion so we went for the full portion. However, when we looked around the restaurant, most people were enjoying their small bowl. Light lunch would be a lot better description. 'Salt and pepper squid' consists of a bowl of fried squid and a bowl of greek salad. Decent but uninteresting. I am sure there are many more interesting dishes on offer. We just were not lucky to pick one. Lastly, no one came to check up on us until we finished our meal. The waiter came eventually and poured more water but did not ask us for any feedback. I would've loved to give the feedback in person.
