Pyeongdae Snack — Restaurant in Jeju

This quaint snack stop was recommended by my guesthouse host and was apparently closed for one year. It is easily searchable even on the car GPS and you wouldn't miss it with its red door and long line outside. As it was drizzling, the rooftop seating was closed, leaving limited seating at the first floor (about 12-13 seats). We had to wait about 20min before getting a seat but I guess other people would have waited longer. The place serves ddeokbokki (KRW4,000) and twigim (fritters) either of prawn (KRW8,000 for 2) or squid (KRW12,000) and we paired it with draft beer (KRW4,000). The ddeok is soft and chewy instead of the hard ones I've tried. The sauce is slightly too spicy for me but the ddeok more than makes up for it. The 5th attempt was finally paid. This time no waiting line. I guess there has been many issue about unkind serving manner and overprice on internet reviews. 떡볶이맛집 평대스낵은 수요미식회 제주도편에 나온 곳으로 유명해진 곳입니다. 위치는 해맞이해안로에서 걸어서 1분거리에 있습니다. 메뉴는 떡볶이를 필두로 왕새우튀김, 오징어튀김, 한치튀김, 모듬튀김, 한치튀김이 있습니다. 시원한 맥주도 메인 매뉴이죠. 가격대는 분식치고는 좀 비싼편입니다.

제주 평대스낵 내부 공간은 좁고 아담하게 되어 있어서 앉을 공간이 많지 않습니다. 실내에는 10명 정도 들어갈 수 있고 옥상에서 12명 정도 앉아서 먹을 수 있는 공간이 있습니다. 이러다보니 손님들의 대기시간이 길 수 밖에 없습니다.

떡볶이는 깔끔하고 달달하면서도 파맛이 향긋하게 나서 질리지 않는 맛입니다. 밀떡을 사용해서 그런지 쫄깃하면서도 탱글탱글한 식감이 납니다. 오징어튀김은 폭삭 구어서 그런지 부드럽고 식감이 좋았습니다. 한치튀김도 마찬가지입니다. 비주얼은 눈으로 먹어도 바삭한 느낌이 들 정도입니다. 한치튀김은 한치의 고소하면서도 부드럽고 쫄깃한 맛이 일품이고 밑으로 튀김 부스러기가 가득 깔려 나와서 더욱 돋보이게 만들어줍니다.

화창한 날씨에 2층 자리에서 먹으면 평대리의 수수한 동네 풍경과 해안뷰를 내려다 볼 수 있습니다. 요즘 마을주민들이 골목에 주차하는 것을 싫어합니다. 마을 골목에는 절대 주차를 할수 없습니다. 개인적으로 몇 번 전화가 와서 해안도로에 주차하고 다시 걸어왔답니다. 해안도로에 주차하고 걸어 오면 좋을 것 같습니다. 그리고 평대스낵에 가기 전 영업시간, 휴무를 미리 확인하고 가야 허탕치는 일이 없습니다.
