고수목마 — Restaurant in Seogwipo-si

If you're trying to eat horses that were bred specifically for food (as opposed to old pets or workhorses) in Korea then this might be your best bet. Here you can eat multiple types of horse saengseonhoe 말 생선회 (horse sashimi/ 🐎🍣 /raw horse), as well as multiple cooked horse dishes.

The steak , the stew, and the soup were all delicious. In one meal we tried 9 different parts and ways to eat horses. It was truly an experience. I preferred the stewed horse over over l everything else due to how dense the meat was, giving it a very strong flavor.

The KBBQ horse was also delicious because it was the only meat with a substantial amount of fat, which most horses don't have much of. The fat holds a different kind of flavor than the lean cuts or the organs.

The soup was made with horse bone broth and the radishes in the soup were so soft that they melted in my mouth. I never expected to like horse soup that much.

Sticking to the tradition of Jeju there is very little rice and lots of meat because Jeju was never a good place for rice farming. I don't think I'd be willing to eat raw horse meat anywhere else. This meal was all meat and vegetables. There was some black rice but i didn't feel the need to touch it.

The woman who cooked our food told us all about the different body parts and gave suggestions about how to pair them with the provided 반찬(side dishes).

제주도에 왔으니 말고기한번 먹어야겠지 싶어서 왔습니다. 고수목마 코스 1인 2만원이었구요 육회는 소고기 만큼 탱탱하진 않았지만 담백했고 간도 적당히 돼있어서 좋았어요 육사시미도 몇점 주셨는데 말고기의 장점이 더 느껴졌어요 찜은 뻑뻑했지만 그렇다고 못먹을 정돈 아녔구 서비스로 주신 안심구이는 살살 녹더라구요 글구 양념구이도 한번 굽는거 보여주시고 구워 먹었는데 살살 녹더라구요 특히 비계가 같이 붙어있는 부분은 엄지척!ㅋㅋ 마지막에 곰탕은 찐득하니 뭔가 말고기 특유의 비린내가 이런건가 싶은 냄새로 생소함에 아쉽게도 막 맛있게 먹진 못했어요 그 전까지 코스랑 서비스로 배가 너무 부르기도 했고...ㅋㅋ 하지만 떠나기전에 더우니까 드시라며 챙겨주신 얼음물 2병에 배보다 마음이 더...
