Myeongdonggwan Review – A Hidden Gem for Traditional Korean Food
If you’re in Seoul and craving some really authentic Korean food, you have to check out Myeongdonggwan. It’s a bit tucked away in Daechi-dong, but trust me, it’s totally worth finding. This place has been around since 1996, and it’s all about serving high-quality, traditional Korean dishes with a modern twist. What makes it extra special is Chef Kwon Myeong-sook, who’s an expert in Yangban Han-sik (traditional Korean medicine food), so every dish is not only delicious but also healthy.
What I Tried: Kalman Set : This was such a great way to experience a variety of Korean flavors all in one meal. The set came with several little dishes, each one offering something different.
Nakji Bibim Kalguksu : This was definitely the most exciting dish I tried! It’s a spicy, stir-fried octopus dish with handmade noodles. The octopus was super tender, and the noodles had a great chewy texture. The sauce was a perfect mix of sweet, spicy, and smoky—definitely a must-try if you love a little kick with your food.
Ambiance & Special Features: The restaurant itself is really cozy and elegant. They have private rooms if you want a more intimate dining experience, which is perfect for family dinners or special celebrations (like a big birthday or anniversary). It’s also a great spot for a business meal or gathering. If you’re coming with a group, definitely make a reservation through Naver or Catch Table, as they can fit up to 80 people in their private rooms!
Final Thoughts: If you want to try some truly authentic Korean food, Myeongdonggwan is the place to go. The food is made with so much care and attention to detail, and you can really taste the difference. Whether you’re a local or a tourist in Seoul, you’ll have an unforgettable experience here. Definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to dive deep into...

Read moreI recently visited Myeongdong-gwan and was absolutely delighted with the experience! The soy sauce marinated crab (ganjang-gejang) was packed with meat, and the seasoning was so addictive - truly a perfect companion to rice. The kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) was also fantastic, with its rich broth and chewy noodles. We went as a family and really appreciated having a private room, which allowed us to enjoy our meal in peace. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, which made the whole dining experience even better.
