No Pride No Passion and a Surly Attitude.
Our first visit to La Cena and also our last . From the moment we arrived a surly attitude, boarding on rudeness, filled the air. The menu choices were sparse to say the least and the waitress who we have now been informed is the owner , gave the impression that serving tables was far beneath her station and that we were an inconvenience rather than much needed customers after the Covid lock-down.
First courses were dreadful, and it became apparent that most of the food was bought in frozen convenience food. Why would a chef / owner build the reopening menu, around such rubbish? Is there no pride, no passion left in the kitchen? The answer is a very large NO . All six starters were dreadful. The mains were even worse. The standard of service matched the food. I ordered meat balls as a main. The first meatball I tried wasn't cooked in the middle. I informed the waitress and was told that you can eat lamb pink. Yes, but not raw! The offending meat ball was taken away.15 minutes later it reappeared. It was black. This single action sums the place up. What decent chef when told a meat ball was served with a raw centre cooks until its carbon black AND THEN SENDS IT BACK TO A PAYING CUSTOMER ? A chef / owner with no pride in his food and complete contempt for his customers. Result 6 customers who will...
Read moreFrom the moment I met the owner/front of house person I got a negative vibe. The only option we were given was the €11.90 set menu (i.e three courses with wine) Let's just say that if something looks too good to be true it probably is! We are quite accustomed to eating out and will willingly pay any money for good food. We were a group of three and we all agreed that it was one of the worst meals/dining experiences we have ever had. Two of our main courses (chicken and 'steak' were untouched and we didn't dare risk dessert as the headache caused by the unchilled white wine had already set in. The waiting time between courses, with a very limited menu on a relatively quiet Monday night was unacceptale. The pleasant Spanish waitress did her best and salvaged the experience for us. We are on holiday from Ireland and had hoped to eat here at least twice but alas this will not be happening. A very...
Read moreNever again! Table booked for 4 of us at 8.30. Arrived promptly. We asked if we could have a beer instead of wine and were flatly resfused! First course eventually arrived at 9.20. Second course also took some time but when they did come out only three arrived, my wife's came out 10 minutes after ours and she was offered NO apology from the waitress/lady in charge! When asked for an apology we got a very sarcastic "sorry" ! We told her we were not happy with the service and she just shrugged and blamed the kitchen! Later on the chef (ladies husband) came out to us, we thought to apologise but no, just said it was his fault the dish was late and not have a go at his wife! They did give us a free drink but we didn't bother with a pudding. Also the menus were scruffy and dirty, items were just scored out in black pen and the food was ok. It was supposed to be served with veg but we only...
