El Jardín de las Eras — Restaurant in Algueña

I visited the restaurant today, for lunch with my friend. To say I was dissapointed with the Menu del Dia is probably an understatement!! Firstly, the obligatory salad arrived, it was nothing special and served on a plate the size of a coffee saucer. Next, came the Mushroom Risotto, and actually this wasn't too bad and an acceptable size for a starter portion. Next, arrived the main course, which consisted of 6 very finely sliced pieces of courgette and and a piece of chicken breast that was probably no more than 3mm in thickness, and 4" long, coated in something and deep fried to resemble a crisp. I didn't risk a desert. Eventually, the waiter arrived to ask if everything was ok? I said no it was very bad. He didn't ask me why it was bad, he just took my tiny plate away without saying anything. My friend was still eating, so I did actually think it was bad manners to take my plate before she had finished eating. This is quite a shame really as the restaurant was very nicely renorvated and very clean. I'm sorry now I didn't take a photo, but needless to say, I won't be going back!! There are too many other local restaurants that offer excellent Menu del Dias for around...

What a surprise this little restaurent turned out to be. Four of us went in the evening, we were the only customers, the main restaurent at the back was closed however we had the evening menu in the garden area. The starters were all fantastic, I highly recommend the fried cheese and the scrambled egg, mushroom and prawn starters - both were delicious. The menu was available in English although the staff only spoke Spanish, we managed to muddle through. Went here for lunch with my family on a friends recommendation unfortunately it did not live up to expectations.To start with the restaurant was packed but only one poor sod serving who was run off his feet and the service was very slow because of this,the starter was fine very nice in fact but the main course was very poor,i had the swordfish it was like eating cardboard it was that dry served with a very small portion of fried potato but no sauce whatsoever.The bill for 5 was over a 100e,will not be going...
