The worst meal I've had in Spain during our 6-month stay, and unfortunately on my birthday. My husband booked this place after seeing some positive reviews. HUGE mistake. We ordered 'chargrilled' vegetables, which we didn't eat because they were overcooked to the point that that they were like mush. We also ordered grilled sardines, which were flavourless. My mom and I shared "lobster wellington," which barely had any lobster, was filled with rice and cost 65 euros. And THE worst meal, by far, was my husband's: pork trotters stuffed with prawns, which basically was a lump of gelatinous fat swimming in gravy. He didn't eat that dish, nor did we eat any of the soggy vegetables. We only ate the wellington (half of it) because we were all starving. In the end, they first only offered to take off 10 euros for the soggy vegetables. Only after my husband escalated this with the manager – she threatened to call the police on my mild mannered husband – did they take off the horrible pork trotters' dish. Our female waitress was fine, but the other rude male waiter who cleared the plates, wrongly told the manager that we ate all of our food. That was a blatant lie. Overall, a miserable and expensive experience that was only lightened by the fact that my family was with me and we were overlooking a pretty beach. Pro-tip: Go to the hotel restaurant instead. Actually, go pretty much...
Read moreI had an unforgettable dining experience at Toc al Mar! The moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the stunning beachfront view, which instantly set the stage for a perfect meal. The ambiance was delightful, with the soothing sound of waves creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Now, let's talk about the food. The paella was nothing short of exceptional. The flavors were rich and authentic, and the rice was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of saffron. It was undoubtedly one of the best paellas I've ever had.
But the real standout of the meal was the razor clams. They were an absolute delight! Tender, succulent, and bursting with flavor, these razor clams surpassed any I had ever tried before. A true seafood lover's dream!
The service was top-notch as well. The staff was attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. I appreciated their knowledge and enthusiasm in recommending dishes and explaining the ingredients.
Toc al Mar truly impressed me with its combination of delectable food, breathtaking beach view, and excellent service. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in a memorable dining experience by the sea. I can't wait to return and explore more of their culinary offerings. Highly...
Read moreReview from summer 2019: 5 stars - I love this place and on my favourites spots on the planet. Food is exceptional - relatively simple seafood done exceptionally well and with passion. Location is awesome. Bravo!
Updating this post 2 years later. Moving from 5 stars to 2! The quality has fallen off a cliff unfortunately. Expanded too quickly and forgotten what made it great. Location is exceptional especially for lunch but don’t expect much in terms of the food. They are trying to do great food but the chef and kitchen staff no longer have the talent or the passion. The seafood is better at almost every restaurant on the Costa Brava now and it’s sad. The pear salad is great. Everything is pre-preprepared to deal with the volume. Expect to be rushed out at the end with the bill thrown at you. We went twice this summer and similar experience both times. From being my favourite restaurant in the world to not being in the top 20 within 30 miles is a real...
