Company Policy We decided on this restaurant based on the fairly good write ups and the fact that it was a family run business. We sat outside on a hot day and opted for the menu of the day: two gazpachos, lasagna (which was more cannelloni than lasagna) and chicken. I asked for chips and was told that “they wouldn’t really be chips because the chicken was with a sauce that really contained the potatoes.” In reality it was as plainly shown in the accompanying photo, proving that the man who described the plate on offer didn’t have a clue about basic cooking. As for beverages, the menu included 7up, Kas, whater (sic), Pepsi and house’s (sic) wine. Then the fun started: I asked for a glass of beer instead of wine and was told that would be extra. I wasn’t all that desperate so opted for water. My wife said she’d like water too, but fizzy. “Oh, that’s extra too”. “Pardon?” There ensued a lengthy explanation by who we were told “wasn’t the owner” and that it was due to “company policy”. After several tries at “ok, two still waters” in order to get the meal rolling again, he was still there nervously defending the “corporate decisions as to why fizzy water was outside the realm of a menu”. A sloppily dressed girl then came out and slapped the bottles on the table. One of them was fizzy water because we had been “granted an exception to said policy”. I was just about to suggest leaving but it was hot and already too late to start looking elsewhere. The food tasted ok but the taste we experienced by falling for the “family business” so heartily recommended was far from pleasant. The other image shown, of the façade, could be a precursor of its imminent downfall, given the state it’s in and perhaps any further decisions on behalf of the members...
Read moreThe chef, Alicia, was was so kind. I searched vegetarian restaurants in Benavente and read a review about a goat cheese burger. To a vegetarian that meant somehow they had made a veggie burger w goat cheese. I was in. But when I got there and showed Alicia, she told it was a hamburger of meat with goat cheese (and other things). But she said she would make me a veggie burger if I wanted. She asked me what I liked and off she went. I was so impressed that a young chef was willing to try and make something she has probably never eaten, maybe even never seen! Yum, yum. Thank...
