I stayed twice at the Esteba when visiting family at short notice and my usual similar hotel was unavailable. It's a B and B rather than aspiring to be a full service hotel but it's perfectly reasonable as an economical stopover or short stay with a single room costing 27 euros a night. Of course for that you get a fairly minimalist facility but the bathrooms though small were adequate and the bedrooms though basic and lived in were comfortable enough. The staff were welcoming and helpful and there is a cafeteria style breakfast area which served good basic Catalan breakfast fare; the fresh tortilla I ate one morning was spot-on. There are more formal inside and outside dining areas with interesting local dishes. There is good free parking and a lift. Beware though of the somewhat technical door system that operates later in the evening; it operates via a fingerprint and though it recognised me the first time it didn't the second.||||Caldes is a spa town famous for its bottled mineral water. It's a couple of miles off the main road from Girona to Barcelona and is pretty quiet. Girona airport is ten minutes drive away and the coast about 30 minutes at its nearest point. Read more3 nights. Positives: Location, Parking, Bed, Sleep Quality, Service, WiFi, Restaurant, Cleanliness and Maintenance. This 1* hotel takes pride and care in what they offer. Super clean, very well maintained, the room has no frills but it offers a recently renovated if compact space and tiny bathroom with basic amenities. The hotel has easy access off the motorway and convenient parking. We had 2 dinners which were pretty good and a simple Spanish bar style breakfast and it came fast and was ok. We paid for our 3 nights on arrival and then separately for each cafeteria or restaurant purchase. Further, please note that the photos on line are accurate and if anything our room was better than expected, although we did take the better room rate.||Linen and towels were reasonable and the firm bed offered amazing sleep quality. Both heating and cooling supplied. Our room 110 had a balcony and although near the single elevator, we used the adjacent stairs to go up and down to level 1. ||Negatives: no hairdryer, shower recess was small, shower head a bit floppy and could do with adjustment. No kettle or mini fridge. You could hear noises from adjacent rooms including tv but once people settled for the night it was very...
