We ate here twice when we stayed in Espinama. The food is good but remarkably expensive, the waiters are reasonably friendly - even with our limited Spanish. Unfortunately our experience is a negative one and we ended up with a very, very bad dose of food poisioning. Earlier that day, we had been hiking in the picos and had eaten coffee, fruit, nuts and bread with toamto - it could not have been these that made us ill.
We came to this restaurant for dinner and tried to order the capocho however they did not have any left, we tried to order the croquettas and they did not have any left, we tried to order another dish (the name of which I dont remember) but they also did not have any left. It was a sunday night, and obviously their deliveries come Monday, so they were down to a bare minimum of supplies. We ended up asking them "what do you have to eat?" - they said soup and Pork loin. So we ordered these. When it came from the kitchen it looked ok, so we ate the pork, paid and left.
Unfortunately by 3am the next morning, my partner and I became violently ill from food poisoning and spent the next 12 hours unable to leave our hotel room. This completely ruined our Picos holiday as we could not do the hikes we had planned the next day.
To the owners, if you are out of food and only have out of date food left you MUST close - you cannot be this greedy to take peoples money and knowingly...
Read moreHad a dinner here on the night of our stay at Pido, and we wished we could extend our stay to just dine here one more time.
The entire place is warm and welcoming, with a bar and a few tables at the ground floor and lot more in the first floor. It is a family run place and that is usually a very good sign for the quality of service and food.
We were promptly attended and our orders also reached us quickly in spite of the place being full. We were given a slick of creamy fish roe which we waited for the orders. Our first course was a Salad and Pimientos de Padrón along with Anchovies and the local cheese, Queso de Pido. Our main dishes were Scrambled Eggs with potato fries and chorizo and Roasted Goat. Both of them were the best we have had. For dessert we went with the hostess' choice, an almond ice cream and we were floored. It was very unique in taste. I think Almond milk was added along with regular milk and along with tiny bits of almonds it was heavenly.
If you are anywhere near the area, just drop in and you will...
Read moreWe visited for lunch after a long and tiring hike with young children. We went upstairs to the restaurant where a few other tables were occupied and it was like walking into somebody's private living room. Everybody stared as we removed our rucksacks and walking gear. It felt as if we were not welcome which I thought was incredibly strange in this region. The service was slow and the atmosphere of the place very 'stuffy' (an English term) which is very non - Spanish! This is hiking and farming country! The food was superb, really good. No complaints. But it felt as if we had to be quiet and not disturb the silence in the dining room. The day before we had eaten for half the price with a really friendly service and atmosphere - I know which I prefer! In summary - good food but poor treatment...
