El Tocinero Restaurante y Posada — Restaurant in Camargo

Six years ago I stayed here. I arrived late and they kept the restaurant open. Fabulous traditional Spanish food, and cheap with it.||||Wishing the same were true today. The hotel, whilst comfortable, was depersonalised, with a new electronic gate. The check in procedure was undertaken at the new purpose built restaurant on site which occupies what used to be the car park. No hurry with the check in, and no friendly greeting initially. Check in eventually completed by kitchen staff. Fair enough. ||||My main criticism was this restaurant. Very expensive, Є28 cheap croquettes, and a pile of greasy lamb chops with chips, very over salted, nothing green, just a small piece of red pepper eventually discovered underneath the chips, plus wine. I would normally expect to pay no more than maybe Є12 for this, and would expect much higher quality. Shame, used to be a great place to stop, but it's off...

It is absolutely worth the visitors’ while to search for and end up in El Tocinero in Camargo near Santander. It’s quiet and full of life in one. ||Rooms are in a separate building. Nothing fancy but everything you need is there. Clean and functioning (excellent Airco). And not just the airco is excellent. So is the service. ||The restaurant serves simple but tasteful plates and absolutely are worth every penny you spend on them.|| ||Some places are OK and other places are not just OK.
