El Puerto — Restaurant in Casabermeja

When I arrive in a new place, I make it a priority to research the local eating opportunities from the cluinray heights of Michelin splendidness to the local pizzeria. In small-town Spain, this is relatively simple and arriving in Casabermeja I figured that for our two days with a large family party to satisfy, there were two options. So it was El Puerto on a Saturday lunchtime during Semana Santa (Easter to you) as the first. Packed with well-dressed local families, this has the air of a classy establishment from the moment you enter. We enjoyed an excellent lunch of fat, lush oysters and whole sea bass baked in salt. Done correctly – not easy - it is my absolute favourite way to eat this fish, and it was done to perfection, tender moist and not even a trace of a pin bone. The wine list is decent both in breadth of choice and reasonable prices. A couple of days before I had asked if they could do a birthday cake for one of the party – I picked a chocolate offering and that too was delicious. Excellent service and at around €50 per head very reasonable for this class...

Veo muchos comentarios positivos aquí, pero no puedo estar de acuerdo con ellos. Mi familia y yo llegamos a Casabermeja tarde por la noche, y este restaurante estaba cerca del hotel, así que decidimos ir allí. Y lo lamentamos mucho.

El servicio no fue especialmente amable. No nos dieron una carta de bebidas, diciendo que no tenían, así que no pudimos elegir las bebidas según nuestras preferencias de precio y gusto. Nos trajeron una botella de vino cara a mi esposo y a mí, y a nuestro hijo la agua mineral más cara.

En el menú no se indicaba que el precio de los calamares baby fritos era por 100 gramos. Allí estaba indicado el precio del plato completo (unos 11 euros). Nunca antes habíamos visto que este tipo de plato, que es algo pequeño y frito, se cobrara por peso. Normalmente, eso solo se aplica a pescado fresco o mariscos caros. Al final resultó que el precio por kilo era de 55 euros. ¡Increíble! Mi ración, cuyo tamaño nadie consultó conmigo, costó 21 euros. Mientras tanto, exactamente la misma ración de pulpo frito para mi esposo costó 13,50. Ambos platos tenían un sabor muy mediocre, como comida rápida común.

Le ofrecieron a mi esposo “¿quizás un poco de ensalada?”. Él aceptó. Trajeron un pequeño cuenco con ensalada de pimientos cocidos. Precio en la cuenta: 18 euros.

En resumen, aprovechándose de que somos extranjeros y no hablamos español, nos estafaron descaradamente. Muy poco hospitalario y muy feo. Por cierto, el restaurante estaba completamente vacío. No había ninguna multitud...

Wonderful fresh seafood served with style. Service always immaculate. We had Malaga prawns - the sweetest ever - please try them.
