It is extremely rare for me to leave a bad review, but there was no way I could leave a different one than this.
Let's start with what is good. The environment is really beautiful and the food was ok. Not as good as you would expect for the price (85€ for tasting menu), but still good.
Now for the rest, extremely bad service. For a tasting menu of this price, you are setting high expectations and what you get is quite opposite.
Starting from the beginning: the hostess received us speaking English. After us asking to speak in Castellano she simply ignored us and kept speaking in English, which she did for the remainder of the night. I'm not sure why it should be a requirement for me to speak English in a Spanish restaurant.
The service was extremely slow. Dinner took almost 3 hours for a 6-course menu. You wait around 30 minutes between courses to be served. On top of that, it required us to order some stuff again and again until they remembered it. Took us asking 3 times until they brought us water.
The service is so unnatentive that they leave dirty dishes on your table. I finished drinking my beverage and they left it at the table for more than two hours.
There is no explanation on what the dishes are. Waiter delivers it at your table, turns their back and let's you try to figure out what you are eating.
The menu has some questionable choices of food for a restaurant trying to deliver a high-standards menu. Two courses in sequence are composed of soups. As well as the desserts: there are 2 desserts, both have ice cream.
They mixed the order of our dishes and at one point, brought my food and didn't bring my wife's food leaving me to eat alone while she watched me eating.
Additionally, some bad mannered guests were in there and no response from the staff. One of the guests was in the restaurant bare feet, another one with a laptop on top of the table doing some work calls. There are cafès that don't accept this type of behavior, I have never seen anything even close to that in what is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant.
To top it all off, when we addressed the issue of slow service to the hostess, she simply stopped serving us at all. She started ignoring us and left all the remainder of the service to another waitress.
Overall, terrible experience, potentialized by the fact we paid almost 200€ in total. For this price, you should expect an amazing dinner. What you get is one of the worst services I...
Read moreAs we were staying at Hotel Sant Ignasi, we thought we would try the attached restaurant Smoix. Our first impressions were favourable. It looked wonderful with fairy lights suspended from the trees, overlooking the pool. We were shown to our table, offered water and shown the QR codes to view both the drinks and food menus. Whilst browsing the menus, it quickly became apparent that the fairy lights had disturbed the nesting birds, who were now messing on seated guests below so some guests had to move tables and unfortunately the area was suffering from lots of flies. My daughter is a vegetarian, whereas I am a pescatarian. We had put this on our booking. Looking through the menu, it was heavy on meat and fish dishes but at the end of menu, we spotted an advertised six course vegetarian tasting menu. After asking the female members of staff, if we could see the vegetarian menu, it became apparent that only the male waiter could take orders for drinks and food. This did cause a delay as we arrived at a popular time. When he eventually arrived to take our order, we asked for details of the vegetarian menu. With a shrug of his shoulders, we were told it was not available as a hard or digital copy. We questioned this as it was on the menu. We were then told it was just adapted dishes from the mains on offer but couldn’t tell us how they would be adapted e.g. the lentil dish would be lentils? But he was not sure of the ingredients each dish would contain. I am sure anyone would understand that even if you are a meat eater then you’d want to know if you’re having beef lamb or chicken, etc and what the accompanying ingredients are? As a result my daughter just ordered a beetroot dish, which was very pleasant but light as a main. Being able to eat fish, I tried the crayfish ravioli, unfortunately the sauce was cold, however the crayfish was delicious and we both enjoyed the lemon pie, served as dessert. The experience was tainted by his rudeness and air of superiority/arrogance of the male waiter. We feel he could have been more helpful, patient and offered a proper explanation to the vegetarian dishes on offer. Unfortunately we will not be eating at...
Read moreSmoix, a seemingly insignificant restaurant from the outside with a somewhat illegible sign to read tend to be larger on the inside. With a modern yet spartanly decorated touch it feels warmer than expected. With a nice outdoor room with the same furnishing one can see the overall approach.
As expectations seems to go towards the service and food as we entered this establishment we were firstly told that no tables where available but as soon as they were told we were writing an article about Menorca things changed. I wonder why?
Entering the establishment we were told to put masks on as well as sanitisers on our hands. We were then shown to our table outside, a very nice table with the main entrance in the back facing the outside area.
Then things changed and we experienced the snobbery that permeated the whole service approach and the hierarchy within it. When one frequently visit different restaurants one tend to draw special attention to the overall ambiance. Though we did not see the inside of the kitchen one can only imagine things.
As our experience did not exceed what we expected we were immediately disappointed. With a head waiter that did not want to wait and a waiter that decided when to wait you, you get the experience of only being an intruder. Don’t worry they do point out directly if you tend to question.
The appetiser - on the house - was poorly executed with old, dry bread though the vegetables topping was nice. We do not recommend the tuna! It was not fresh! The suckling pig was tasty but a bit more gnocchi would have been appreciated. Also they tend to have forgotten that vegetables are a healthy and tasty side dish that makes a good complement.
As the check was paid the waiter’s non-appreciated approach was immediately detected and noticed by us and other guests that glanced towards our table.
The conclusion is that if you like to be treated as number two and don’t care how you are treated, this is the...
