Ruta 22 American Diner — Restaurant in El Paso

We are Americans visiting La Palma. The food here is American-style but not what we eat typically. The food we had on the three occasions we ate here (our bungalow is about 80 meters away) was very tasty. We had plain fries as the crazy fries are not something we would enjoy. They were very popular with the young people though. The onion rings are amazing. I highly recommend them. The half meter sausage was good. My husband and I shared it. He also ate half of his tuna sandwich but they wrapped up the rest to eat later. I had the beef in tomato purée twice. Delicious! The desserts are ok. My favorite was the Oreo pudding. The first two times visiting were not busy but we ate earlier and during the week. The third time was a bit later on a Friday and it was packed. One of the servers turned out to be one of the owners. He (and the female server) were very welcoming and very busy. The prices were very inexpensive. We are staying in the same bungalow in April 2023 and we look forward to eating here again. A magnet for families, El Americano offers a broad, varied menu that has something to suit everyone. It is exceptional value for money, always busy, and it's opening hours are convenient - far more so than most places on the island.

If you're hoping for chunky homemade burgers, or a chicken burger (for some reason, chicken burgers are oddly absent in La Palma), you won't find them here, but you will leave feeling full, satisfied, and possibly shocked if you've never previously seen half a meter of papas locas! 😳

Ayer decidimos visitar El Americano motivados por las recomendaciones que habíamos escuchado sobre sus famosas papas. A pesar de haber visto siempre el lugar lleno, nuestra experiencia no fue del todo satisfactoria. Habíamos oído maravillas sobre este sitio, especialmente acerca de sus papas locas, sin embargo, quedamos un tanto decepcionados.

Desde el inicio, notamos que algo no estaba del todo bien. La comida que pedimos llegó fría. La hamburguesa Maxi Buey, una de sus destacadas, dejaba mucho que desear. En cuanto a las papas locas americanas, llegaron frías la salchicha tenía un sabor extraño y tanto la mechada como el pollo estaban resecos, lo que afectó negativamente nuestra percepción del plato. Para empeorar las cosas, después de la comida,comenzamos con molestias estomacales que no esperábamos.

El tiempo de espera para recibir nuestros platos fue excesivamente largo llegando incluso a servir la comanda a 2 mesas que se habían sentado más tarde, lo cual resultó frustrante. La demora en el servicio definitivamente no contribuyó a mejorar nuestra experiencia.

Es importante destacar que, a pesar de las altas expectativas que teníamos, esta visita no cumplió con lo que habíamos escuchado acerca de la calidad de las papas y la comida en general. Hemos probado papas y hamburguesas mejores en otros lugares de la isla, lo que nos lleva a cuestionar la reputación que precede a El Americano.

Además de la comida y el tiempo de espera, el servicio en general dejó mucho que desear. La falta de atención por parte del personal fue evidente, lo que afectó negativamente la experiencia en su totalidad.

En resumen, nuestra visita a El Americano no fue lo que esperábamos. A pesar de las buenas críticas y la afluencia constante de clientes, la calidad de la comida, el tiempo de espera y el servicio general nos dejaron descontentos.
