We have been coming to Es Mercadal for several years and our first trip there was based upon being the food capital of Menorca. And it is. The are many great eateries and Can Jaume was one of them having ate there the previous year. This year was a totally different experience. We ordered both wine and our meals after being seated. The wine was delivered and placed on the table. The person bringing the wine; presumed owner, quickly disappeared to speak to another table. We poured our own wine and celebrated an enjoyable day. The food arrived rather quickly, being fillet steak which is supposed to rest after being cooked, but we started to eat. The dish came with fried diced potatoes that were both cold in places and did not appear to be fresh. The steak was ordered medium-well, but sadly after a few fine slices was very much on the medium-raw side. We decided the evening had been spoilt after sending the meal back to be reheated, cooked as desired and returned. We left paying the full bill amount!
We would recommend seeking alternative places to enjoy your evening meal at Es Mercadal, as there are many, with far better cooked food at more reasonable prices. If you do like expensive poorly cooked food, enjoy...
Read moreFamily restaurant, service was extremely good, in comparison best on the island in my opinion, two lovely ladies. We had half portion octopus and squid. Avocado salad, rabbit paella, grill squid. Octopus was good, maybe a bit salty. Small squids were very good with almost no crumbs at all. Big portion of avocado salad and delicious. Rabbit paella would be nice to have 4 pieces of rabbit not just 2 for 2 people as it was very small piece of meat. Meat/rice ratio was a bit off, a lot of rice in comparison to meat. We ate paellas in 2 other places, so I am no expert, but I think rice was a bit undercooked in my opinion. In other places paella came after 30-45 min, here it was super fast, so maybe that's the reason. You get free bread, free cookies at the end, free lemonade at the end, a lot of stuff you do not need to pay for, which is why its an easy 5 star, even though it has a few shortcomings to improve upon. Brandy shots were humongous and was only...
