Venta El Refugio — Restaurant in Estepona

One of my favourite meals I've had in Spain. Service is very good-the chef showed us the vegetables from the local organic farm and explained about the dishes we were about to eat in great detail. We had a selection of salads and the most amazing roasted tomatoes soup with fresh mint. I never thought I'd be obsessed with a tomato soup, but it was out of this world. Esta venta refugio está situada en pleno paraje natural de Los Reales de sierra Bermeja con lo cual es fácil ver senderista que la frecuentan. Aunque aquí arriba también suben ciclistas y moteros por las maravillosas vista que ofrece este lugar. Aunque a mi me ha traído hoy aqui la curiosidad de probar esta venta y comprobar por mi mismo qué tal se come aquí. Desde luego no es la típica venta a la cual uno está acostumbrado a ir, ya que solo por el lugar en el que se encuentra la hace diferente de la mayoría de las que uno conoce. Y es que para llegar aquí hay que tener ganas de ir. Recordar que no es solo una venta. Tambien es un refugio de montaña. Se encuentra a unos 1400 metros de altura y llegar aquí supone subir un puerto de montaña (Peñas Blancas) y después seguir subiendo casi hasta la cima de los Reales. Pero si aún así subes como he hecho yo y decides comer aquí, te diré que te acordarás. Mi experiencia ha sido satisfactoria en todos los aspectos. Era algo que aunque lo quería , no me lo esperaba. El interior aunque austero resulta acogedor con la chimenea. Cláudio es quien lo lleva y quien nos atendió estupendamente a mi y a mi mujer. Los platos que el mismo cocina no tienen desperdicio. Todo riquísimo. Cómo para repetir muchas veces. Algo a tener en cuenta es que es recomendable llamar para reservar y que aquí por temas de cobertura solo se paga con dinero. The place is a must, even on cloudy days. There is a high mountain atmosphere. On clear days, the views are impressive. The road to the top of the mountain is a bit long but totally worth it.
