AVOID! DISHONEST, RUDE, FOOD ONLY OKAY BECAUSE WE WERE HUNGRY AND THEY WERE THE ONLY PLACE OPEN! Staff very rude, when we entered they did not acknowledge us. After a few minutes we sat at a table. 10 minutes later they still had not acknowledged us, one guy acted like he might come to our table but then went behind the bar and joked with the other staff. He put headphones on and went outside. My daughter (who does speak Spanish) went up to the bar to ask for a menu and the bartender told her to sit down. Several min later a serve came over and put a menu down (in a hard plastic display that sat upright-this is important detail for later). Our first language is English & we were hiking the Camino, suspect this played a roll in our poor treatment. Although they would not be working if hikers from all over the world didn’t go there. The food was nothing special, salad was okay. The main dish- I got served the wrong thing but I think I got lucky with this, as when the server brought out the pork I had ordered it looked scary. I got about 8 French fries with the meal (hot on the outside cold in the middle- that’s talent). We chose the “ice cream” for desert which was a nestle ice cream cone like you would buy in the store (this was good for entertainment). We were polite the entire time hoping they wouldn’t spit in our food. Another one of the waitress was picking at something in her teeth behind the counter, this is obviously disgusting and not sanitary. She never washed her hands and promptly at 1800 she left (thank goodness she did not serve us). THEN WHEN I ASKED FOR MY CHECK THE WAITRESS CHARGED US 22euros per meal, but the hard plastic menu said 15euros, when I told the waitress the price said 15euros she went over and grabbed a paper menu to show me, I told here we ordered off the other menu. She got mad change the price to 15euros each. She tried to OVERCHARGE us by 14euros! Note everyone else in the restaurant ordered off the hard plastic menu and may have been taken...
Read moreTwo of us were doing the French Section of the Camino last week and stayed in 5 hotels in total and all were fine apart from this (this had no stars like the others!). Not of an acceptable standard and we were very disappointed, tired and upset as it was completely different to all the other accommodation. It is definitely not a hotel but a cross between a cheap motel and a hostel. Located at a very busy road junction surrounded by trucks and a petrol stations, lots of cars, bikes and motorbikes. Inside the bar, it was full of men playing cards, drinking, kids screaming and not a particularly pleasant atmosphere at all. It was not particularly clean and did not smell great. I couldn't imagine eating a meal there. ||The owners, two men did not seem interested in anyone or anything, just to make money but not to provide a pleasant experience. We had met another lady (we had met her in other places along the way) who came into the Bar and asked had we seen our room which we hadn't at this stage. She told us that she had seen her room which was small, dirty and smelly with no shower. She decided she could not stay and we decided that we could not either and so this was all translated by the other lady in Spanish as I only speak French and German, he spoke no English. He didn't seem to care, just shrugged and did not offer anything to help or persuade us to stay. ||I asked for our bags. He showed me to the back of the premises where the bedrooms were located and there in an open hallway were our two bags which anyone had access to and could have taken them. I was shocked that they were not put aside in a secure location as in other accommodation.||I would not recommend this place to anyone and suggest if having to stay near Zubiri, there is another lovely place located a little further on which is right on the Camino route, another hour by foot or take a taxi there -...
Read moreWe started the Camino two weeks ago and this hotel was our third along the way. It's nothing specIal but having been slightly concerned by an earlier review were relieved to find it better than reported, perfectly fine. ||It's about 1km up the main road from the bridge and on a hot day a cold beer and the shade of the veranda was just what we needed. We were served by 3-4 different people whilst there, not much English which might make them seem unfriendly but they were all ok - keen to please and give good service. Its true that the mineral trucks stop there for a break at the end of the afternoon, I don't know if they stayed the night, they had no impact. The room (we had room 1 I think) was basic but fine, and the food was ok. We ate in the bar, the locals played cards in the evening and in the morning the bar is a popular coffee stop for locals. ||I agree that the bags could have been put elsewhere rather than under the stairs - but no one locally is very interested in stealing pilgrims dirty washing.||Perfectly ok to rest...
