As an Italian, when I go abroad, it seems silly to eat at Italian restaurants: I get enough of that for the rest of the year. So it was by chance that we ended up at the "Italian" restaurant La Nonna, having just landed in Tenerife, tired and hungry. The welcome in a simple and small place (reserve if you can) was a good first impression.

The menu of dishes including appetizers, first courses, main courses, and desserts is very rich, considering the number of seats available. The surprise was finding Italian but Canarian dishes (and more). The culinary approach to the dishes is certainly Italian. But the traditional Italian dishes have been "translated" primarily to use local ingredients, adapting the variety to the rich plant and animal life of both the Canary Islands and Spain (but also Italian, where needed). Additionally, they dare to combine original pairings and techniques that also draw up to molecular gastronomy (such as the date "caviar" - from Chef Adriá's teachings - on crostini with goat cheese and South Tyrolean speck, to give an example), achieving perfect fusions and extremely pleasant presentations in their simple architecture.

All this to say that whether you are Italian or from other countries and find yourself in Tenerife, don't miss the opportunity to try Italian cuisine that isn't Italian, nor Spanish, but original while respecting tradition, imaginative and fun, technically impeccable, and absolutely of quality. To make this story short, so much so that in the first 5 days of our stay, we have already been there...

Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of dining at La Nonna in Gio Tenerife, and it was an experience to remember. This charming restaurant is run by a couple whose passion for food and hospitality shines through every aspect of the meal.

La Nonna masterfully combines Italian cuisine with a touch of Japanese fusion, creating dishes that are both innovative and delicious. From the starters to the desserts, each course was perfectly executed, with flavors that were beautifully balanced and creative.

The service was exceptional, warm, and personal – a true reflection of the dedication and care of its owners. It felt more like being a guest in someone’s home than dining at a restaurant, which added a special touch to the experience.

If you’re looking for a place that delivers both outstanding food and heartfelt hospitality, La Nonna is the perfect choice. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates exceptional cuisine crafted with love and...

GOLD STARS AND CROWNS FOR THIS DELIGHT! Walked in thinking I'd just get a cheap pizza and fall into bed. This place is top quality! The price reflects the experience. It's well worth a detour to visit. We ate dishes we would never normally try and any expectations we had were blown out of the water. Fantastic chef and front of house... attentive, relaxed, warm and welcoming service. The passion put in to each detail is difficult to miss. We walked in for a cheap pizza and happily spent just under 60e to fill us both up with food and love. We had the prawn Gyozo, salmon cannelloni, 1/4btl house red, tiramisu and chocolate mud cake with pistachio ice cream. Cleansed with beautiful limoncello. I'm glad the pizza idea didn't work out tonight 😂 everyone close to here should absolutely try this slice of heavenly fine dining in the quaint little farming town of chio! We would return in a...

After the 2nd time of eating in this great, well decorated restaurant situated in the loverly village of chio. It's well worth a drive up to experience this modern twist on italian cuisine, we had the burrito salad and langostine gyozas, also the Angus beef carpaccio, we also had the tastiest lasagna ever. The house wine was excellent, many thanks to francesca and Luciano for looking after us and making our meal very special, keep up the good work, and we hope many more people will make the trip to give la nonna a try.

I went back to La Nonna with 2 friends and once again, the food was amazing. I had the vegetarian gyoza this time. I tasted the gnocchi with the 4 cheese sauce (the sauce was absolutely divine!) and the sauce with truffle from the burrata. The chef really cares about serving delicious, quality food that just makes you want to come back!! The service is impeccable and friendly. It is nice to enjoy a wonderful meal in a chilled restaurant, away from the hustle and noise of the coast. I can't wait to go back!
