My wife and I visited Restaurante Vega today, and it was a complete disaster from start to finish. After arriving, we were completely ignored by the staff and had to wait two hours just to be seated. Despite being in plain sight, the waiter didn't acknowledge us until I had to approach him myself. Only then did he write our names down on a list, which he was using to seat guests.
Once seated, the service continued to be abysmal. We waited another 20 minutes before anyone even approached our table, and then an additional 15 minutes just to get our drinks.
The food was a mix of good and horrendous. Our appetizers were decent— the shrimp salad was flavorful and well-presented, and the meat croquettes with fries were tasty, although very dry. It would have been better if the waiter had offered some sauce to go with them.
The main course, however, was a nightmare. We ordered the grill mix, and it was awful. The pork ribs were bland, tough, undercooked, and served cold. The beef steak was also flavorless, though at least it was cooked properly and was juicy—probably the only redeeming piece of meat. The pork chop was undercooked, extremely tough, and just plain bad. The sausage was the only item that was somewhat acceptable.
The portion size was massive, but the quality was so poor that it felt like a waste of good ingredients. Half the portion size with properly prepared meat would have been much better. As it stands, it’s just wasteful and inedible.
After repeatedly trying to catch the staff’s attention and signaling that we were unhappy with the meal, they finally started to pay a bit more attention to us. However, up until that point, we were almost completely ignored.
The setting of the restaurant is unique and beautiful, but that’s where the positives end.
Overall, we absolutely do not recommend this place. It’s overpriced, the food is terrible, and it’s vastly overrated—clearly just a tourist trap. Save your money and...
Read moreWe were advised to go to this restaurant whilst on our flight out to Gran Canaria and it didn’t disappoint.
A lovely drive up through the Guayadeque Ravine on the GC103 basically as far as you can go and the restaurant sits at the top of the ravine with a lovely view back down towards the coast .
On arrival you enter through the entrance way and walk through a cave style corridor - this is where you get the first sounds of families all chatting and enjoying something special together in a relaxed In pressurising atmosphere and then the smells hit you giving a little taste of what is to come.
As you enter the main area you are greeted with a lovely atmosphere and amazing staff who make the experience here something to remember(shout out to Gerald who looked after us and was excellent from the first second to when we left ) as did all the staff to be honest.
Service was quick and the food was well presented and full of flavour. Pork and especially grilled Pork is their specialty but also go for the goat and for the pasty style starters which are full of spice and amazing flavours , a must have ( see photo )
This is a definite must when in Gran Canaria.
Note - ample parking , access is easy and the for those who need them the bathroom facilities were exceptionally...
Read moreInsanely great experience! We got to the Vega restaurant by accident while exploring the beautiful ravine area. The meal was so wonderful that made us plan to stay another week in Gran Canaria (the lunch was supposed to be our last one after 12 days in Canaries). We ordered papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes), pimientos de Padron (peppers of Padron), prawns in garlic and sauted vegetables with prawns plus a bottle of Verdejo (pretty good one, only 12,5 euros). All of the dishes were simply Delicious! We finished the lunch with superb gofio mousse, fantastic Uruguyan polvito (the best we have had during our trip) and fabulous immortal barraquito drink. All of these for just 57 euros (for two people)! On top of it the staff were very welcoming and kind, leave behind the view from the terrace that is out of this world.
Tip: if you want to sit on the terrace, book in advance, especially if it’s a weekend. We got the last terrace table arriving there on Saturday...
