This crepe place survives only because there are no other options in the region. Poor quality ingredients and service.
To respond to the owners: The review above is a summary of four different experiences had over the last 8 years.
During the first experience we were served a dish with canned or frozen mushrooms (champiñones de bote). Most people would consider that a poor quality ingredient.
On our second visit, we order a ham and cheese crepe. The ham used was the kind of square slice with rounded corners that oozes water and comes in giant family packs in discount stores. Again, I would consider that a poor quality ingredient.
The third time, we ordered a galette, which compared to other galettes we've had in other creperies, we did not like. But that can be considered a subjective opinion.
We did not return for many years until a group of friends wanted to meet there.
We were reluctant but decided to give it a shot. Since we no longer eat ham, and since we could not trust that the smoked salmon or other ingredients would be any better, we decided to stop by Carrefour and buy a pack of turkey slices. We arrived early. There was absolutely no one at the restaurant. We asked if it would be possible to make two ham and cheese crepes but instead using ham, replace it for our sealed, commercial, perfectly acceptable pack of turkey ham. The answer was a resounding no.
The reasons given were: That they "stand behind the quality of the products they serve", which was curious since we said nothing about the quality of the ingredients, we only mentioned that we do not eat pork. That they do not make substitutions because if they started making substitutions for us they would have to do it for everyone else that came into the restaurant and that would be absurd.
Sanitary rules were not mentioned to us. It was brought up to our friends once we had already left. Needless to say, had a inspector walked into the restaurant at the very moment when the chef was pealing open a pack of turkey ham and placing it on a crepe, I am more than certain, that the inspector would not have found the slightest issue with that.
Restaurants have every right to have a no substitutions policy. But considering that this establishment is a small, family friendly place and it was complete empty when we made our request, saying no to something that simple, I consider bad, unfriendly service.
At the same time, we know this establishment makes substitutions, because it was mentioned by some acquaintances recently. The toppings that go on a galette have been served on a crepe and vice versa, etc.
We left the establishment feeling like it was a personal offence to want to substitute ham, that the chef's ego was too big to accept such a simple request and combined with our previous experiences, I felt inclined to leave a review, which still stands. It's a place that survives only because it is in a small rural town where there are no competitors and the expectations are low.
Lastly, I wrote the review in English because, first and foremost, this is google, it doesn't really matter. It can all be automatically translated. And two, it is a review meant for an international audience who may appreciate knowing that if they go to this establishment, which is one of the few around with an original menu, they can happily enjoy the experience if they lower their...
