La Cala - Cal Pep — Restaurant in l'Escala

This is literally the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in my life ! We are a group of people of 10 , walked in and would like to order some food and drinks after the whole day kayaking in the area. The moment we sat down the owner came and kicked us out as some of the boys from our group are shirtless. We explained that it is no problem to put on the shirts but before we could even explain ourselves the owner already started yelling and screaming at us to leave in Catalan. Bear in mind that some boys of our group are Catalans and there is no language barrier here. I was so shocked to see the owners horrendously rude attitude towards us when we were so polite and tried to explain to him we would comply with his rules. No respect whatsoever and full of himself. Great Location, shame about the service. The restaurant is right on the beach and enjoys great views. The food is nice, possibly a little overpriced but I would probably not have noticed this had the service not been so rushed. Beer bottles cleared from table before they were empty and my plate whisked away from me whilst I was still chewing my final mouthful. You might think they needed the table but when we asked for the bill they were so slow we had to go to the bar to pay and even then it was a drawn out experience. A shame that what could have been a very pleasant meal was spoilt by the service.

We have been coming to Cala Montgo twice a year for 4 years now and we have tried every single restaurant in the area including La Escala and this place has the best food and service far superior to the rest. After 4 years visiting we find ourselves coming to this restaurant 90% of the time.
