Hotel-Restaurante El Sueño de Jemik — Restaurant in La Roda

I am a little on the generous side with 4 stars.

We had a long drive from the Santander Ferry, arrived at 1030pm and really needed a bed for the night, so this place seemed like the ideal choice. There is a good going cafe restaurant, so if we had needed something to eat and drink, this was available.

There was a mix up over our booking, not entirely sure what happened as I had a confirmation email and booking ref. The reaction from the staff suggested they were full but then after 10 mins a room was produced, and we were asleep not long after. The staff were excellent, with very good English, and as my Spanish enables me to order drinks in a bar but not much else, I don't know how we would have solved our booking issue if the staff had no Spanish.

There is some building work going on beside the hotel and we were woken at 8am by some loud banging. We needed to be up to get moving again so no issue for us, and presumably just a temporary thing.

Shower was excellent.

Petrol station on site very handy. It has talking petrol pumps. Never experienced that before. If only I could understand what...

Restaurant smelled bad when we walked in....like sewage: not a good sign, but at 10pm, we were hungry. We ordered a couple of sandwiches to go. One was ok: bocadillo de tortilla de patata but the second was wrong: ham and cheese instead of vegetable tuna salad...and what a tuna mess! I was so hungry I gobbled it down to avoid tasting it...a wilted piece of lettuce, a glob of tuna directly from the can (no mayo), a slice of mushy tomato and get this: a fried egg on top! This is a Hotel / Restaurant by the side of the road, I had lunch in here and the menu they offer is good for the price @ around €16 per person, the service is very fast pace and it is like your eating very fast to give the place to others, the shop they have next to the restaurant is great, you can buy local products, Miguelitos (puff pastry with cream) cheese and different types of chouriço.
