There’s a tiny, unassuming restaurant tucked away by the port that’s so inconspicuous you could easily stroll past without a second glance. But don’t make that mistake. Make every effort to step inside, because once you do, you’re in for a culinary experience that belies its modest exterior.
Start with the "rabas," which are, without a doubt, the best I’ve had in all of the Basque Country. Perfectly crispy, yet tender, these squid rings are a revelation. Each bite is a harmonious blend of delicate flavor and satisfying crunch that sets the bar impossibly high.
Then there's the monkfish. This dish is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s as if the fish was plucked straight from the sea that morning and served directly to your plate. The freshness is palpable, with every morsel bursting with the taste of the ocean. It’s a simple preparation that lets the quality of the fish shine through, a testament to the skill of the kitchen.
Finally, the dessert. Homemade, no doubt, and the perfect conclusion to an outstanding meal. It’s the kind of dessert you want to savor slowly, relishing each spoonful. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of sharing it. As good as it was, I found myself wishing I had kept it all to myself, to fully enjoy the sweet finish without having to part with even a single bite.
This portside gem may be easy to miss, but once discovered, it’s impossible to forget. It’s a testament to the idea that sometimes, the best culinary treasures are hidden in the most...
Read moreA typical tourist place that I would avoid in the future. Even if it seemed obvious : no locals, only tourists at the tables, menu translated in few languages, in front of the harbor… The nice reviews trapped us. It’s very nice located and the view is beautiful but… We ordered the mushroom croquettes to share, they weren’t cooked, still cold on the inside when we ate them. We told the waiter who took the four we had left but didn’t put an other plate with the whole entree well cooked even though we all had to eat cold ones. Peppers were good though, we have to admit. For the lambs, they had too much fat, a tiny left to eat. One of us tried the « rape », apparently it was good. We were two to take the veggie burger, didn’t get a burger at all, only the veggie pattie, that seemed to be industrial and not homemade, didn’t have a good taste. Not much in your plate for the price, we all had dessert somewhere else because none of us were satisfied after our menu at the restaurant… It’s our 5th night in Lekeitio, we tried so many better restaurants. OVERPRICED, especially when we see what we had! We thought at first that the price was a quality sign but not at all. Waiters were nice to us though and tried their best to understand our french or English. They don’t serve wine or Txakoli by the glass btw which is the very basic drink here…Everyone else does but not them. Not the worst experience, relatively good but not incredible and not enough, too expensive for the location....
Read moreAvoidable Dining Experience at Antzarrak in Lekeitio I’ve visited Lekeitio every summer for years, and my latest experience at Antzarrak was highly disappointing. I was with a group of 4 adults and 3 children, and despite 3 empty tables, the staff declined to arrange them together, citing it would confuse the kitchen. This seemed unusual, as they managed to serve us at separate tables without issue. The service felt disorganized, and the overall atmosphere left much to be desired. I’d rate it lower if possible, but I’m limited to one star. I suggest looking elsewhere for a better dining option in Lekeitio.
