Built in 1904 the Hostal Balneario La Encarnación now is just as lovely it was then; very Raffles-esque. Its not for the lovers of the ultra modern and contemporary. But, if you enjoy antiquated, slightly rustic, original architectural history this hotel, just yards from the beach, Playa Carrion, in Los Alcazares has it all in bucket-loads. Rooms, are situated down meandering passages off the main, incredible but beautiful central court yard restaurant leading through to the outside cafe and dining area. Draped with climbing plants, the original, beautifully designed overhead, wrought iron balcony, with original floor tiles lines the upper walls and offers a wonderful view over the whole internal structure. Rooms are just as delightful; most I believe having their own balconies, as did my own with the most awesome view of the beach and the sea only a few yards away. The rooms are very well decorated, have personal bathrooms with hair drier, mini fridge, complementary refreshments, TV (with at least three English speaking stations, including Disney), a floor standing fan for those wonderful hot, balmy nights and room attendance every day, if you want it. Such a delightful hotel with very accommodating, pleasant and polite staff.

The hotel have a great feeling it like going back in time. BUT when I checked and got my room key it was a cockroach on the stairs going up to my room! 00.15 when I should sleep I heard something on the wall next to me! It was a massive cockroach was next to my head! I killed it. Pulled the bed out checked the whole room it was ok. 00.30 I heard something again it was a new cockroach even bigger! I had enouth! The receptionist gave me a new room on the other side of the building. I double checked the room and yes ok! I woke up 08.00 I heard something that fall on the floor next to me AND A NEW BIG COCKROACH that I killed and then a new one! I will not stay night 2 I thought in to the bathroom and there it was 1 more on the wall!!!! Terrible uhhh down to reception and told them I want my money back for my 2,nd night I can NOT STAY ANYMORE! They said ok but its because of the rain!! I got my money back and left! Never again! I.m recident in Spain and been in Spain a lot but never ever seen anything like this!!

We booked a family room for 4 at the hotel during the peak of the summer holidays - 15th August. What a gem of a find of a hotel. I had read reviews before the booking and knew this hotel was full of old charm. Upon arrival, I was taken back into an old era - the hotel still hasn't lost any of its charm, and the old baths, which are now used as storage rooms, remind you of how the baths were during the times the hotel was built (circa 1904) The hotel and the rooms are old, but that's part of the charm; the building is well looked after, clean, and has modern amenities - TV, Kettle, fridge, fans etc. The best part of the hotel is the location, right on the waterfront, as can be seen by the attached photos. I also want to say a big thank you and gratitude to Itxaso at the front desk, who was very helpful at check-in, and no question was too much for her to answer. We will return soon at a less busy time to experience more of the same charm.

We have visited this restaurant many times over the last 15 years. Yesterday will be the last. It was always a stand out place in the area for location and service. My wife and I decided to have lunch there after our bus to Murcia broke down just around the corner from Encarnacion. We arrived around 2ish and waited for someone to lead us to a table . There were a lot of the staff just talking and eventually my wife walked in and a young man shouted to us and asked us what menu we would be eating from. Apparently this would determine where we would sit. Pretty inappropriate to be honest. He pointed us to the cheap seats and a minute or two later somebody came and took our drinks order. The food and drinks followed soon after. We ordered 5 things from the Tapas menu a beer and a bottle of wine. 4 of the items turned up pretty soon after ordering but 10 minutes later we had to ask for our other dish. The food was generally uninspiring. The Albondigas were inedible. Everything else was ok just. We ate our lunch and I wanted to order a coffee. There was staff stood around but nobody it seems wanted to see if we needed anything else. A chap who was waiting on a table behind us came past and I asked him for help with a polite Hola. He completely ignored me. This really was out of order. I eventually got my Cafe Cortado but the incident with the male waiter was utterly disgusting. Had I have been an elderly Spanish gentleman I'm certain he would have heard me. I asked for the bill and when the lady who had served us brought the bill I asked her if I could speak to a manager. The manager came and spoke little English and my Spanish is also not fantastic. The lady who served us helped out and I got my message across. She had witnessed the waiter ignore me because she told us she had seen it. We paid the bill and left. We...

Stunning location, I love coming here. Beautiful building beautiful views. Lovely menu. However I’ve visited this year and been unbelievably disappointed. Terrible service, over charging, additional items on the bill arguing when questioned and slow slow service.

I went a week ago and additional items on the bill €20 then they asked if I wanted to leave as a tip!!! I declined and I left no tip!

They added tomatoes to the tuna toastarda we ordered although explained in Spanish my partner doesn’t want or like tomatoes. They then charged us for the first ones and the replacements.

This week we went for breakfast it’s was diabolical, tomato so runny it made the bread a soggy mess so I had bread and oil. As it was just to difficult to ask them for less runny tomato.

Today which was the final straw and I’ll score this off the map the bill was just wrong unless that’s how it’s done here. We needed a snack for medication time (80 year old parents) so various tapas items. We had one bread basket with 3 bread rolls and 3 packets of dry bread crisp things and they charged us €1.20 x3 although we ordered one bread basket. We also ordered Ali oil and had one pot charged 3x. I ordered papayas bravas and again on the bill twice. My mum ordered bocaditos (bree) battered it said 2pcs on the menu at £1.95 they charged us twice but she only had 2. I ordered as on menu 2 mini quiches (the name quicheS suggests more than one) again they charged for 2 portions so I’d expect 4 on the table. My warning is check your bill. Scrutinise and don’t trust them. The hotel is stunning, the location is stunning, the area is beautiful the food if you are ok with dirty and cracked plates (I’m not) is nice but staff and the literal...

Service completely lacking! Retraining required! First time at the hotel with my children and mother and thought this will be a perfect location to sample some Spanish hospitality recommend by our uber driver, greeted by a lovely receptionist smiling from ear to ear, she had no English which is absolutely fine, explained we wanted drinks and lunch. She walked us out to the restaurant to be seated, staff were all lovely and smiling at this point then when I asked for vegetarian options the older waitress sighed and brought me another menu pointing for me to have a 3 course set meal, I explained I wanted something small so she told me to have the tuna salad with no tuna, I continued to look at the menu but service from then was forced and actually rude. I opted for a desert as did 1 of my teenagers to which they started clearing our table extremely aggressively since we weren’t “dining” ! Staff member was very upset clearly, never came near our table again while we were there, I had to ask for the bill 3 times from the same male waiter who continued talking to another staff member even tho I’d asked twice at this stage, we just wanted to leave, horrible horrible atmosphere, didn’t finish the desert, drank the glass of wine asked again to pay and we left! Later found out there was a tapas menu to the side of the hotel, why wasn’t this offered ???? When we explained to the waitress we wanted something small not once did she try and help!!!!! We walked over to San Antonio for lunch and had the best experience ! Friendly happy welcoming staff! Hopefully everything is on camera and the hotel/restaurant can learn from this mistake with their staff treating tourists...
