Good value and good food...
This used to be a wonderful five star travellers' and family restaurant, but now is pretty much focussed on catering for big groups from the many tourist coaches who stop here, roughly half way between Cordoba and Granada. If you see the dreaded tour buses parked outside at main meal times, be prepared for a crush and possibly a long wait for service as these groups have a timetable and will take priority.
There is a large sheltered dining patio at the back with a fire in the winter and the much improved garden along the old railway line, complete with train coaches,There is an ever increasing collection of old farming and olive oil impedimenta to wander round, too, all providing a nice calm setting when there are no groups in.
There a smaller indoor dining room which has aircon in the summer and doesn't seem to be used for groups.
The shop part sells local olive oil, almonds and now own label olive oil soap and so on, plus " souvenirs", all targetted to the tour groups but still worth a quick look, especially when local seasonal produce is on offer.
The food is always prepared fresh to order and is still good value. Sadly, it seems there is no flexibility possible any more on the menu offerings , so now it's even more desperately limited for vegetarians. The wonderful egg and chips they used to do is , alas, no more, as " it' s not on the menu" . Though maybe they were just too busy that day? I will ask again!
Opens very early in the morning for a very fast service of excellent coffee and tostadas, great if you are on the road.
Loos here are best avoided, but if desperate, use the outside toilet block, which is large and clean, if somewhat spartan and Baltic in the winter.
Still a good place, but pick your time carefully and beware of those ...
Read moreI give this place a 5 because its great food, good price like really cheap and customer service is fantastic. We had the menu of the day shared between 2 as I m rather a light weight when it comes to food and the starter and main course where the same size. I ve never tried revuelto de collejas and our waiter highly recommended it. I couldn't have been happier with it as its some form of vegetable similar to spinach but sweeter. The restaurant is set near Luque town in the old train station and its lovely with old rail carriages and the original building still very much there. Francis our waiter was charming and kept us both entertained and gave us great recommendations. They also have a shop inside selling all local produce including almonds olive oil etc. It was fairly quiet when we arrived but soon after several coaches arrived for shopping and eating. The menu of the day is €10 and its incredible value with plenty of choice and includes starter, main course dessert, bread and your choice of drink which includes alcohol. If I lived nearer I would be there every week. Will definitely visit again. Loved the atmosphere in the place....
Read moreWonderful and popular stop at the old railway station at Luque, on the Cordoba-Granada road. It's a great spot to kick off or finish your exploration of the local cycle routes and walkways. The attached deli is rustic and a great place to purchase locally grown goods from. The Olive oil for one is earthy and to die for! Cafe itself serves a solid selection of Tapas dishes and local specialities. Though busy staff are polite, attentative and on the ball. Be warned the portion sizes are large. Would definitely recommend. It is popular with visitors and...
