Last Wednesday we were happy to succeed in making a reservation at Hermanos Alba, near Málaga. A special occasion! Upon arrival the staff gave us the choice: terrace or dining area in the restaurant. Our best guess was: maybe a chilly night and/or crowded streets so we opted for the elegant dining area inside.

Neither chilly nor crowded streets. As a matter of fact: during the entire stay, we were the only guests in this superb restaurant.

It turned out to be a very important evening for people in Spain watching soccer: a match of the Champions League quarter-finals (the Champions League quarter-finals, Real Madrid- Paris Saint-Germain).

More important, we were very happy to enjoy the full attention of the chefs and our waiter. Fine dining, knowledge of wine pairing.

In short: excellent food (fresh, local fish and seafood), impeccable preparations and servings. Oysters, sea urchins, scallops, lubina in salt crust, cheese cake.

We had booked a table on the terrace, but in arrival we were told our table was inside. After a lot of discussion, they finally laid another table for us on the terrace. The service after that was excellent. Very nice table cloths, napkins and cutlery ( very unusual for El Palo!). I have to say that the food was disappointing, everything was ok but nothing special. The Ensalada Rusa was nice, as was the tuna and the omato salad, but I could have bought/made the same quite easily, and in fact there was not much tuna. The main course, Pargo, was a little overcooked, so dry. Just enough for two people, €77, that seems far too much for me. We enjoyed our evening, but will go elsewhere the next time. So, service excellent, nice atmosphere (Ifinally), food very average and poor value for money. By the way, I do live here,...

RECTIFICACIÓN: DECEPCIONANTE en todos los sentidos. Servicio rápido para las bebidas ( como es costumbre el truco de cuanto más esperas, más bebidas pides). Toman nota de la comanda después de dar varias vueltas sin sentido, el camarero, maitre o jefe sala. Vemos que las mesas de alrededor están sin servir o han terminado, la mayoría extranjeros. Al final van poniendo a cada mesa su mediocre aperitivo( aceite con la botella a punto de terminar y aceitunas insípidas). Van llegando los platos, me imagino por orden de llegada. Ha pasado mucho tiempo, tal vez en cocina estén desbordados o poco personal. Después de media hora llega nuestro primer plato, presentado por un camarero que te explica los aperitivos deprisa, sin mirarte y disculparse por el retraso. Resumiendo. Boquerones escasos y correctos, ensaladilla rusa escasa y correcta, calamares mediocres, buchones de rosada, decepcionantes. El servicio, un desastre. Un camarero y un” responsable de sala” dando vueltas, desordenados, despistados, cometiendo errores en los platos. Pides bebida y todavía estás esperando. PRECIOS MUY CAROS PARA LA MALA CALIDAD DEL SERVICIO Y LA COCINA. FALTA PERSONAL Y UNA BUENA GESTIÓN. SUERTE CON LOS INGENUOS FORÁNEOS ( COMO NO SE ENTERAN DE NADA….). LOS MALAGUEÑOS YA NOS HABÉIS PERDIDO PARA SIEMPRE. NO RECOMENDABLE CALIDAD PRECIO MALA. QUE DIFÍCIL ES HACERLO MAL.

Siempre hemos ido en el almuerzo en familia durante varios años, todo nos pareció muy bien. Esta vez fuimos para cenar convencidos de que todo estaba a un gran nivel. No nos defraudó, Servicio muy correcto y amable. Ensaladilla rusa, boquerones y calamares fritos muy bien elaborados. Mesas y espacio más acogedor. Tal vez la carta debería ser más variada. En cualquier caso, merece la pena almuerzo o cena, totalmente recomendable. Calidad- precio buena. Solamente a tener en cuenta que cobran 2,50€ por pax en cubierto,incluye, aceitunas, aceite, pan ( mejor reciente o un golpe de horno porque frío resulta duro de comer). Notamos pretensiones de un restaurante comparable a Paradores o alguno de estrella michelin. Bueno cuando lo has probado todo solamente te queda decir, disfruta y valora lo que comes y lo que pagas por ello. De todas formas se agradece un restaurante de nivel en esta zona de Malaga....
