An albergue to avoid. If Albergue Gaia isn’t available, better walk 6 km further to the next one.
I have walked many caminos and stayed in many dozens of albergues. This one I rate the worst I have been at. rude staff 40 people crowded into two rooms, no space to move or place your backpacks not even a chair or anything to sit on in the dorm room. If you have an upper bunk, you are screwed. Can’t even sit down to remove your socks 2 showers, toilets and washbasins each (m/f) for 40 people! 3 power plugs for the entire room of 20 the beds are so narrow, I was worried I would fall out of the upper bunk, so did not sleep well Garden is a construction site and also infested with thousands of houseflies bar is closed at 3 pm. basically 4-5 hours of the afternoon are wasted. Can’t stay in the overcrowded dorm, the bar is closed, the garden is a construction site and so full of flies… 4 little tables in the bar/restaurant for 40 people (12 chairs) at dinner 1 person to take orders and serve for 40 people. That person is rude when you want to order. the menu pellegrino served was the usual stuff offered to pilgrims - average - however at 15€ the most expensive on this camino.
They have the monopoly here, because the better Albergue Gaia was on holiday this week. They don’t care for the peregrinos, just want their money.
The young lady taking orders was complete overwhelmed. The young girl helping her wasn’t allowed to do anything. The more senior lady who arrived later was friendly and courteous (the only positive of this...
Read moreAs you enter, you have a good impression since you see an ultramodern steel staircase on the left and an appealing view of a dining room on the right. Don’t be fooled! As many have mentioned, there are an insufficient number of showers, toilets and sinks given the 40 or so capacity the place has. I believe there were two each in the men’s bathroom. You will be queueing up to use anything in the early morning rush. There were probably 20 beds (yes bunks) in my room. Garden (as in the albergue’s name)? It looks like there is one but access seemed to be through the dining room which was closed the entire evening (a Monday); so no one was in the garden that day. Be careful that the wind does not blow your drying laundry down there, as you may not be able to retrieve it. I did see something that looked like a common room, so that’s apparently an improvement. I did not visit the kitchen in which there is apparently no refrigerator and few dishes. This place was NOT worth the 16 euros I paid in August 2023. If you can manage to hike another 6km, walk on to Puente Villarente. Mansilla is badly in need of a municipal albergue. It comes as no surprise that there are so many one-star reviews for...
Read moreThis is probably the worst Albergue I've stayed in. Purely for the fact it's got no real walls or doors so sound travel is absurdly strong. the room is just completely open to the corridor and right next to the room is the bathroom that also doesn't have real doors. only saloon like swinging doors so you can hear the taps and toilets all night and anyone brushing their teeth. and all of this with ear plugs in. the room is also outrageously hot. there's almost no ventilation. definitely not worth 15. The municipal Albergue is just up the street and only costs 7€. Also there is a minimum card limit of 20€ which is absurd if you show up as an individual and their cost is 15€ and you have no cash. They are basically hamstringing you into buying something extra. There is also no kitchen. Not even a microwave or a kettle. Also in the bathroom they have a soap dispenser with no soap..no towels or hand dryer either. The only reason I even gave this two stars for location is because it's on the Camino route, I had just walked 40km, my first choice was fully occupied and I didn't know about the municipal Albergue until after I'd checked in here. Otherwise I wouldn't have gone...
