A good experience. Food really good. The only slight downs for me were service which is definitely not the 5 star this eatery tries to be. It was quite shambolic with 2 staff who tried their best but took a while to get drinks, ignored empty plate for a long while etc. That said they were pushed with a coffee machine that to me at least, doesnt seem to be big or fast enough to make a few coffees on the trot. My breakfast looked fabulous and tasted super but was on the cold side. My espresso was definitely not for me. Over roasted beans and a taste more like boiled coffee than true Italian. I understand that taste is all very suggestive but as an addict coffee drinker this was sour and acrid. Whether it had been made properly I dont know. Had to ask for sugar as it came without and that took a bit more time as those 2 staff were really pushed. Sugar itself was in a plastic packet and I would've thought that it could be offered in a proper sugar pot. You may think I am pedantic but 5 stars is 5 stars. The website talks a lot about what art bakery tries to be and it is on the right path. The prices are fine. You pay for quality, everyone understands that. These things are easy to sort out I think because everything else is really good and I hope that whoever reads and responds to this doesn't get offended or too defensive. To me 5 star prices need 5 star service and I do feel that wasn't present during our visit. Would we come back? Yes I definitely would and like to think this was a bit of an off day because the quality, presentation, cool vibe and taste of what we had was way up there. The breads looked heavenly too... but if service is still wobbly I then wouldn't come again. As others have pointed out, this bakery has to be a destination as it is more challenging to seek out. So for us to make that extra effort and pay the price, it has to be spot on on all aspects. UPDATE: Second visit better service. Food brilliant that's for certain. Still a few niggles which I can't ignore but that said we have told of this place to a few people who were delighted to find out that such a bakery existed. Good...
Read moreHad a delicious lunch here, salmon quiche with a side salad, and a strawberry and pistachio cake for dessert. The flavours were amazing and a lot of work has clearly gone into their creation. The place is beautiful inside and has an outdoor seating area which worked well for me as I came with my dog. Super accommodating for my dog, they came to serve me outside and brought her a water bowl which was a beautiful work of art itself! The girl who served me was lovely and very helpful. I’d previously enquired about the dog on WhatsApp and had immediate and helpful replies I bought a sourdough loaf to take away and I can safely say it was the best I’ve ever had. It was still fresh and useable 4 days later
This would be a 5 star review because the food, service and atmosphere was spot on. The prices of the food were about right considering the quality of ingredients and the effort required to produce. Where this failed to gain the extra star was the confusingly extortionate price of the teas. Some were more expensive than the food and I’ve never seen prices so high anywhere in the world. Even the Ritz in London doesn’t charge as much! I had the cheapest English breakfast tea and that was 8.90€ I seem to remember (I didn’t take my receipt), but others were around 15€! It was a nice tea but I just couldn’t understand why there’s a need to charge so much. Having a cake and a cup of tea would cost over 20€
So, please address this if you can and you’d get regular visits from me and an...
Read moreMeeting a friend who is a retired Michelin starred chef for early dinner and having to choose a location is difficult. We wanted somewhere quiet, casual dining and away from the Bank Holiday crowds. Art Bakery was the perfect choice tucked away in the residential area behind Marbella bus station. The menu is essentially Brunch and Breakfast but as we were there early evening we started with some very nice Cantabrian anchovies served with rye bread and quails eggs followed by pizzas and salad. The pizzas are absolutely wow! Bases are made with sourdough, thick crust but incredibly light, generously topped with quality ingredients. The combination of fresh green pistachios, with pesto was a revelation. We ALL agreed that it was the best pizza we had ever tasted and pricing of the pizzas is very reasonable indeed. Dessert was a choice of pastries. They sell their pastries, breads and pizzas all for takeaway too as well wonderful birthday/celebration cakes (the Napoleon Millefeuille is a triumph). We started with a crisp white Viñas Viejas and then moved on to a delicious, full bodied red Dehesa de La Granja to accompany the pizza. Both excellent choices. A lot of thought has been given to both the interior and exterior decor and service is friendly. Ecological sustainability is also evident which is always a plus and their kitchen area is pristine. The pizzas...
