Altameira seemed like a ghost town come dinner time, with every restaurant closed. Luckily, Bar O Comercio shone brightly as the lone beacon of deliciousness. And for good reason! We dove into a seafood extravaganza - the razor clams were perfectly cooked, the calamares danced on our taste buds, and the oreja (pig's ear) was a delightful surprise. Even the wine expertly complemented the entire meal. While the Galician soup fell a tad short on flavor, the service was impeccable, making the entire experience top-notch. Bar O Comercio isn't just the only option in Altameira at night, it's the clear winner. I highly recommend it!

Only place in Armenteira open for dinner, so it’s a monopoly. The service was just fine, not really friendly but efficient enough. We ate inside—old diner vibe, lots of flies. The food was ok, and prices were reasonable. There is another bar/restaurant (A Fonte) in this small town, but (1) it was closed today, and (2) even on the days it’s open, it doesn’t open for dinner. The only hotel (Pousada de Armenteira) offers breakfast, but no lunch or dinner.

In front of the Monastery, this restaurant has plenty of tables inside and outside. Quick service even when super crowded and only one waiter going in and out, we had a super dinner enjoying plenty of marisco and meat options (zamburinas 👍👍👍, navajas 👍👍👍, pulpo 👍👍👍), while drinking a bottle of white and a bottle of red house wine. Excellent night, good quality food, 45€ each the bill, and we even had a few rounds of chupito for free.

Terrible place that is hostile to pilgrims. I ordered the “pilgrim’s plate” and was charged extra for bread and drinks. Fine, I didn’t ask. I came back with friends for dinner and specifically said I did not want bread or drinks. They brought it anyway, we did not touch it, they still charged us and argued with me that it was required when you sit down.

Moreover, my vegetarian friend ordered French fries and fried peppers, the easiest order to make. It took 2 hours for her order to arrive, after we had all ordered and eaten. They offered no apology or concessions.

And finally they refused to split our checks and never acknowledged us throughout our whole time there. Just terrible service all around, which I’ve come to expect from Spain but this was...

A Tourist Trap – Avoid at All Costs

One of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in Galicia. We waited over 40 minutes for a single, poorly cooked pork steak served with stale French fries and a sad excuse for a salad (literally two limp leaves). The waiters were rude and completely uninterested, and when we asked to split the bill (we were sitting with a friend we happened to meet), they refused with an aggressive attitude.

This place feels like a tourist trap—overpriced, low quality, and absolutely no respect for customers. The only good thing was walking away from it.

Go a few meters further to ‘A Fonte’, a much smaller bar with far better food, friendly service, and a more authentic atmosphere. Don’t waste your time...
