This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat. Their traditional rice is OUTSTANDING and has been even recognized by the jury of Girona for its perfection (being awarded a certificate of excellence). The “arròs caldós” (“soupy paella”) of vegetables is a “must try”, it is second to none and you can’t go wrong with it. They also have a vegetales paella which doesn’t appear in the menu and I would strongly recommend it too. About the starters, they rely on season ingredients so it may vary on the time of the visit but in short: in winter I am a fan of their calçots tempura (cooked tender inside and crunchy outside, with a homemade romesco sauce - I always ask double sauce). The grilled artichokes are super meaty and flavorful. The desserts are all homemade too, except for the icecreams, I am a fan of the crunchy bread with dark chocolate ganache, olive oil and salt flakes (this is a traditional catalan dessert that it js difficult to find and is doing a comeback)
For non-vegans: I must admit they are also very famous for their “cabra de mar” rice and other meaty and fishy dishes. They even make their own...
Read moreThis restaurant has provided me with one of my all time most memorable culinary experiences. To start, this restaurant is a deeply authentic, family run and absolutely local establishment that stays open year-round and caters as much to the local community as it does to tourists. Then there is the location, nestled in the defensive walls of one of the most jaw-dropping medieval villages I have yet seen. The place is steeped in history that can be felt in every nook and cranny.
Then there is the food. I cannot recommend the "rabbit rabiosa" highly enough, it is literally one of the most outstanding dishes I have ever tasted. Oozing with authenticity and utterly sublime flavours, it is simply epic. So utterly brilliant that we have returned twice since our first visit to have it again. There are simply not enough words to describe it. Absolute must try for anyone passing by this incredible little village that isn't vegetarian!!
I say this as someone that has worked as a chef and has managed and owned multiple restaurants and hospitality establishments in different parts of the world. . . It really cannot get much...
