The tiny hotel is in Cain de Valdeon, which is 5 miles down a TINY road (don't try and do it between 5-7pm as you will never get through due to all the people leaving the gorge) and sits right at the start of the gorge. There is not much here - a few places to stay and a couple of restaurants - but the real key is (a) you can park for the gorge as you're already there, and (b) you can start the walk before the thousands of other people arrive and ruin everything. The hotel is very basic but comfy - very small bathroom. But the location!! Look out of the window for great views of the Picos de Europa, and walk around to see nothing but giant mountains. There is a fountain in the square too with lovely mountain water - don't buy water, but fill up your bottles here. The staff are very rough and ready - don't expect great or speedy service here - but they are friendly.||The restaurant downstairs is fine - good food and good value, but it seems to open when they feel like it, so ask if it looks closed and they are very...
