We wanted to walk the Garganta de Cares and this is the way to do it. The tiny hotel is in Cain de Valdeon, which is 5 miles down a TINY road (don't try and do it between 5-7pm as you will never get through due to all the people leaving the gorge) and sits right at the start of the gorge. There is not much here - a few places to stay and a couple of restaurants - but the real key is (a) you can park for the gorge as you're already there, and (b) you can start the walk before the thousands of other people arrive and ruin everything. The hotel is very basic but comfy - very small bathroom. But the location!! Look out of the window for great views of the Picos de Europa, and walk around to see nothing but giant mountains. There is a fountain in the square too with lovely mountain water - don't buy water, but fill up your bottles here. The staff are very rough and ready - don't expect great or speedy service here - but they are friendly.||The restaurant downstairs is fine - good food and good value, but it seems to open when they feel like it, so ask if it looks closed and they are very...

Perfect location for walking the spectacular Cain gorge. Wayside inn beside the bridge and the water fountain in the centre of the picturesque village of Cain de Valdeon, with high mountains all around. Next door to a reasonably priced separately owned car park (actually a small field). The bar opens out onto a large outdoor seating area. Inside is a big dining room where breakfast and evening meals are served.||The little bedrooms are accessed from a side door into the building over two floors. Clean and comfortable modern en suite accommodation is provided at a very reasonable price. Furnished with twin beds, bedside table, wardrobe and small desk with chair. Good sized en suite shower room with WC & basin.||Breakfast and good evening meals recommended.||Very helpful service although little...

Great place to taste the traditional food. It's a family restaurant. The guy that received us was super nice. We did the Ruta del Cares with rain and we were all wet and cold when we got to Caín and the guy helped us by suggesting a place for us to go warm ourselves. We didn't even had to ask for it. It was really great. Such a great person. He was also really easy to talk to and tried to give us the better experience we could get. It was a great time there.

Stayed here one night before walking the Cares gorge but couldn’t wait to get away. Rooms are tiny, with ancient beds and mattresses (see photo). Worst dinner of two weeks in Spain. The kid casserole was mainly bone and the creme caramel had these weird lumps in it. Kitchen area not fully clean - our glasses had weird black bits floating in them...
