Basic bar and restaurant. Small terrace, not very attractive. The food they serve is tasty but portions are way too small and to expensive. Had lunch/dinner over there five times and decided not to go there anymore. It feels like they try to "trick" you (a nice way of saying they try to cheat on you). We paid several times €2,75 for a glass of wine although the menu says a glass of wine will cost you €2,50. Last time we had our Sunday lunch, one of the dishes we ordered was a daily special. Red tuna with rice and vegetables at €13,90, which by the way is very expensive. We only got cold rice with carrots, beans and a little seaweed salad on top. After calling the waiter and showing him he told us the tuna was sold out. Why sell a dish and let a customer pay €13,90 if the most important part of the dish is not present? Looks like a scam. I had a lasagna (€10,90) which exists of two leaves lasagna, a little spinach, not fresh but the frozen one, in the middle. One slice tomato on top and the whole thing covered with cheese. A very small portion and not really worth the money. Ofcourse we (didn't have to) pay for the tuna but that is not the point and only reasonable. Maybe it's because we aren't Spanish and they try to cheat on foreigners (not common for Spanish people though). Anyway after visiting the place for more than 25 times I suppose this could be the last time.
Visited again after a long time. We had dinner with friends. Service was friendly and fast. Hummus, with beetroot, was of good quality. The Korean-style Russian salad looked like regular Russian salad with Patatas Brava sauce and pieces of marinated tuna. The taste was good but it is not entirely clear what is the Korean style about this dish. The salad could have had a little more dressing or you have to put oil, vinegar, salt and pepper on the table. The cachopo was less in quality. Two and too thick slices of beef with too thick filling. The meat of a cachopo should be thinly sliced/beaten. filling not too thick and then breading. We missed (good quality) bread on the table. The 6 thin slices of toast with the Hummus cannot...
Read moreSome locals (always a good sign) had recommended La Calma Playa on Avda de la Axarquía, Torre de Benagalbón, so decided to give it a try.
It is surprisingly spacious inside – you wouldn’t necessarily think it when you see it from the outside – and with a covered area at the back right next to the beach, so nice views.
The menu is available via a QR code on the paper placemat and it is quite comprehensive. I’m sure they would provide a 'real' menu should one be required.
I decided to have Gambas Ko Phi Phi, described on the menu as ‘Shrimp casserole with vegetables, Kimchi sauce, sweet chilli and crispy noodles’.
The crispy noodles resembled a tangle of cables but were tasty enough once I had reduced the volume sufficiently to be able to squash them down into the DELICIOUS sauce. I was extremely taken with the sauce – sweet, a bit spicy and extremely deeelicious.
More Gambas Pil Pil than casserole, in my view, and would probably have preferred it with soft noodles or just some nice fresh bread. However, that apart, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely have it again...and again.
Others had a very nice looking burger stack and a Cachopito de solomillo de ternera con cecina y queso payoyo y truffle mayonnaise. Also very...
Read moreLovely view; watched the sunset with the sound of the waves crashing! The waiters were kind and attentive. Food really let the experience down.. far too many options on the menu to start. The tacos and poke bowl were great! However the rest of our selection (nachos, croquettes, prawn & mango salad, fish noodles and breaded sirloin) were not good. Either too dry and over cooked or smothered in sauce! The breaded sirloin in particular far too dry. The tiniest piece of cheese when it’s a selling point of the dish on the menu. All in all, come for the vibe;...
