I set my hopes high but unfortunately I found the dishes disappointing. We had some fried calamari (rabas), which they offer in two versions - local, tougher variety (premium prices) and softer type sourced elsewhere (cheaper). The local ones were ok, but the other dishes I tried - not so much. The fish and shellfish soup was very basic and lacked depth of flavor, however the worst experience was paella. Maybe if they named it "arroz con cosas" I would not be so surprised, but what we were served had nothing to do with real paella. I understand that Cantabria is quite far from Valencia, but calling this thing paella was misleading to say the least. The pan was high like a casserole, there was absolutely no socarrat at the bottom and the overall experience was kinda meh. Edible, but in the end we struggled to finish what we ordered. Interesting that they serve paella, but refuse to serve cider with the comments that "this is Cantabria, not...
Read moreSan Vicente de la Barquera has lots of dining options. With a little research we chose this place. Based on good feedbacks and the fact that they serve Lobster Paella.
Location is at the main street, but it's blocked a bit, so it's not really noisy. Staff was very friendly and our Bulldog was welcome as well. The place - the whole town actually - was pretty quiet during these Covid-19 times.
Had some Gambas a la plancha for a starter (grilled shrimp) and then of course the big pot of Lobster Paella for two as a main.
Shrimp were nice and fresh, a good choice. The Lobster Paella was very big in size, couldn't finish all the rice, but the Lobster we managed. Lobster tasted very good and fresh. Nicely cooked, tender.
Two glasses of white wine each with that. Bread on the side.
A very good meal in a very nice little town. Staff was great, prices are fair, food quality is good....
Read moreThis has to be the biggest waste of fresh fish and seafood I’ve ever eaten. Navajas de San Vicente bland with no seasoning, a lazy effort from the chef. Croquetas de Marisco were mainly potato. Zamborinas over cooked and the garlic with them burnt. The Merluza a la romana soggy, a waste of a good piece of fish. My wife ordered the Mariscada individual which included raw almejas and raw Cigalas, they took the plate back and recooked it all, even recooked was no better than an amateur cook could cook at home. All of this costing us 129€. The lady serving us was great, the lads at the bar was rude. Only good thing about this restaurant for me, was a cafe con...
