Set back off the tourist trap of SA is this beast of a place!
Read the book, learn about why this place is magic if you want, but seriously, this is one of the best places I've ever eaten in.
As you approach the unassuming entrance you are guided around some humble but totally gorgeous surroundings. Multi level and abstract in its design, you are greater with a stunning and super famous pool with DJ. Famous for being the pool in Wham's Club Tropicana, anyway, the staff are courteous and welcome you into the most chilled out atmosphere where you can grab a seat and admire the view.
We were promptly tendered to and ordered two cocktails and a bottle of local rosé.
Cocktails were fresh and flamboyant, I often have drink envy of my better half but this time, I think I nailed it, can't remember the name but it was "something" girl...kinda like a pornstar martini if that helps.
So on to the food. For starters we went for fried oysters and the prawn cocktail. I played it pretty safe with a prawn cocktail until I saw the 6" prawn anchored on my dish! And wow, it was meaty, soft and so tasty. My partner had the fried oysters which I must admit were easily better. Light and dipped in breadcrumbs with a gorgeous twist on coleslaw!
We followed this with (read the book) lamb (wowza!) and pig cheeks and Osso Buco (monk fish)... Jesus wept! The meat was so tender and flavoursome I wanted to eat it all night. The fish was perfectly cooked. Firm and juicy. Words fail me tbh, this meal was up there with the best of the best.
And just to top it all off our service was exceptional. Left us alone to enjoy our delights and always there for a top up of wine or a question.
The atmosphere was chilled and we ate early (8pm) to avoid crowds, it filled up and was still breathable, private and really intimate.
We couldn't do dessert but we will come back for the happy ending, we promise.
For those wanting a full night, the club opens around 9-10 and if you have a reservation you get full access to roam!! Definitely do this!
We are going back tomorrow for...
Read moreA JOKE, WASTE OF TIME, TOURIST TRAP: I have spent a large part of my life around the world in restaurants/hotels with a good to excellent level of quality and no matter the setting, using the word "setting" very loosely, when I pay a certain price for a dinner I expect it not necessarily to be a 3 star Michelin guide level or not even a 1 star but to be at least good or even acceptable. I had a lamb shank with beans that was worse than an English breakfast, my daughter sea bass that was heavily overcooked to a level where it was in part not edible...I have absolutely no issues with old Spanish rustic cuisine however, in that case if the kitchen aims for that style of menu it also needs to be prepared and cooked quite perfectly because the recipes are extremely simple and as said it can be extremely good, no doubt about it. We had a table of 8 people and all our plates were medium to cold plates, not a single person said he/she was pleased, my daughter's fish was heavily overcooked but cold, my lamb and beans was an absolute joke. My point is if a restaurant charges 40 EUR per main course roughly it doesn't need to be perfect but it needs to be edible and it was not. Horrible place, avoid at all cost, and furthermore it felt like going into a bad James Bond movie with body guards everywhere (???), and I have been around the planet quite a few times. We also had a an issue with the minimum spend per person which is also a cancer now spreading across Ibiza but never mind for the moment, the food was, as mentioned, worse than having an English breakfast in San Antonio. The management needs to have a close look at its strategy for the...
Read moreWe attended yesterday for a meal. The food was good. Dessert was my favourite - the chocolate Mousse. Next favourite was the starter - crispy duck. The Sunday roast was lacking. However, the reason my rating is low is because I have food allergies. The staff were made aware, and advised me of which options were suitable. And yes, while they were mostly delicious, I've been in bed since I got back to the hotel yesterday afternoon after having a reaction to something I ate. It was the only meal I'd had that day apart from fruit, so I know this meal is the reason I'm ill. Really...
