If you’re driving through the laid-back village of San Miquel, you might easily pass by Ca Na Hathai Thai without giving it a second glance. The sunbleached exterior and slightly worn facade are far from grand, not in the least "Thai-like", and almost beckoning you to lower your culinary expectations. Street parking is your only option, but a large, free carpark is within easy walking distance (150m), making it a breeze to stop by.
Once you step inside, you’re greeted by a decidedly casual atmosphere. The tiled floors and dark interior could remind you of a cozy café rather than a restaurant. The staff are dressed informally, and they bring a multi-lingual, easygoing confidence that feels in sync with the laid-back café-like ambiance.
Here’s the kicker: the food is exceptional. As someone who’s frequented this spot for over five years, I’ve found it to be consistently impressive. The menu is wide-ranging and MSG-free, curated and executed by Thai chefs in an open kitchen. Whether you’re new to Thai cuisine or a seasoned lover of it like some friends I recently took there, Ca Na Hathai Thai delivers. And a word to the wise—when they say “hot,” they mean it.
The drink list won’t win any awards but it covers the bases adequately—beers, basic wines, soft drinks, and spirits. Everything you need to quench your thirst as you navigate the delightful food options.
Don’t expect opulence or theatrical flair; the restaurant is straightforward in its offering. But that’s part of its charm. The food shines so brightly that it turns the restaurant’s simplicity into an asset. Whether you’re sitting in or ordering to go via their efficient online system, you’ll find that your euros stretch far here, adding to the place’s overall appeal.
In a nutshell, Ca Na Hathai Thai is a no-frills, cozy corner in San Miquel that offers something quite extraordinary: a genuinely great Thai dining experience in a setting where you’d least expect it. The food is the star, stealing the show in the most unassuming way, and keeping folks like me coming back...

It gives a real alternative to the restaurants in the SanMiguel zone which dedicate themselves more to island-style food! Open kitchen where you can watch your food being prepared by a team of pro's! Delicios food, fresh, colorful Thai-food, perfect for summer, especially the noodle salads, when temperatures are high. Shady and comfy! As I am a lover of Thai-Curries, it's a temple to me! The Red Curry is perfect! You can even order it "Thai spicy" 🔥🆘 Be careful! 😉 If you visit SanMiguel, it's a place you have to enjoy! Very friendly people working there! Clean toilets and everything! Clean restrooms are a good indicator for a restaurants quality! I am a working resident here and it is one of my favorite...
