Vegetarians be warned!!!
‘From the Garden’ section on the menu, doesn’t mean the dishes are vegetarian.. I had a bad experience with two dishes coming with meat in and after a miscommunication between not eating egg vs being vegetarian then this wasn’t reflective in what I ordered, the waiter could have easily clarified by basic dietary preference conversation. Not noticing until taking a bite of the food I was upset (I’ve been veggie for 25 years and this situation has only happened once before!!) and checking in with the waiter he was pretty rude indicating it was my fault- I ordered some replacement dishes. One turned up with cheese on which I’d ordered without so I returned that and that was corrected. By that point I didn’t really want to eat anything further. Anyway, I didn’t tip because of the reaction I’d got and not wanting to make a scene I thought I’d send an email to their customer service to give them an opportunity to suggest some improvements to their menu and/or offer a goodwill gesture. They did neither of the above - denied any accountability and said it was fair that I paid for all of the dishes that I ordered and the mistake with the cheese basically a non issue.
Poor response and therefore an honest review reflective of my situation.
Shame as I come to menorca every year, visit here every year and finally did the wine tour - so that included with dinner means I’ve spent a lot of money here over the years. I won’t be coming back - disappointed but there are some lovely other places I can recommend for other veggies...
Read moreIt's such a shame. Binifadet continues to make great wines. Their restaurant & tapas bar has sadly fallen down over the past year. It seems their chef moved on and they got somebody "very good" from Barcelona. Sadly their offering now seems to try hard without any real skill to pull it off.
The cheeses used to be delivered simply with a small bowl of their lovely red or white wine jelly. Now that tasty jelly is liquified and dotted on the overly large board so sparse you can't even taste it.
The restaurant menu used to be small, simple but good food. Now there's 8 options for tapas, about 7 starters, another 7 mains, 5 deserts and about 6 specials. The pork jowls with crayfish was tiny and tasteless. The duck breast with sobrasada paste polenta was dry and had a strange bitter flavour running thorough the whole dish (I believe it was the sobrasada paste).
To top it all off the pear tarte tatin wasn't even a tarte tatin, more a block of puff pastry with half a wine poached pear on top. And no sign of the toffee sauce that was promised. The lemon pie with honey and lavender was also sadly void of both honey and lavender.
Such a shame. With amazing ingredients around on the island all it takes is salt & a chef who knows their own ability. Go for the wine,...
Read moreBooked a table online the day before. Glad we did; thoroughly enjoyed the menu del dia option. Bonus was the amuse bouche, the free water and the coffees at the end of the meal. They had run out of the quinoa starter so I had the, very well-seasoned, Russian Salad instead. Delicious. Hubby had the cold soup option, salmorejo with grated boiled quail's egg and serrano jamon on top. Loved it. The cod mains were a highlight, with a robust and well-reduced sauce and silky cauliflower puree. Would recommend the cheesecake. Hubby had the Coca Bomba dessert which was a little heavy to finish because of the bun - another lady left most of hers - but the really dark chocolate ganache in the middle was delicious and not too sweet. Bought two bottles of the Merluzo to take home (at 8 euros each what's not to love?) as this fruity white was excellent with both the Russian Salad tuna starter and the cod. Since I'm a red wine drinker, that's saying something! Arrived at 2pm, left just after they (theoretically) closed at 4pm but several diners were still around without feeling pressured and one Spanish couple had only just sat down. Thoroughly enjoyable 2 hours. Intend to repeat the experience the next time we visit Menorca. Only wish we had...
