Donde Mario — Restaurant in Santa Úrsula

We (3 of us) had dinner at Donde Mario last Saturday on our last night in Tenerife north. We were so pleasantly surprised with the food! The ceviche (we ordered seafood and tuna) was amazing, an explosion of taste in the mouth, sweet, sour, savoury and they added crunchy and boiled corn kernels which gives a nice merriment of texture as you savour each bite. The staff and team there were also extremely friendly and courteous, and some speaks really good English although we normally can get by with my husband's basic Spanish. There was however a happy mistake, thinking that myself and my son were ordering 1 kg of fish which actually turn out to be beef ribs .... it looks really good that we decided that it is okey and it was one of the best beef ribs we ever had! Juicy, tender and delicious! The fish soup was hearty and rich and the dessert, spoon licking good. We were almost sad that we couldnt come back again but for sure we will return on...

We were disappointed, complicated menu where dish descriptions were not clear and the waiters didn't seem to know either, or at least were not of much help despite being in constant radio comms with the kitchen. Menu is just a list of stuff rather than being clearer about starters, mains and plates that can be shared.

We are pescatarian and pretty flexible, but my wife doesn't eat raw fish. So 70% of the menu was out for my wife.

If you do like raw seafood and meat you will probably get on better, but for us the menu was limited. For the vegetarian dishes we had it was expensive/ little value for money.

Overall a place that is trying too hard but doesn't deliver. We have been to both sister restaurants and they are great bit this one...

Most of our food was good. I spottet some lice (or something similar, small animals) in the salad and told the waiter. He took our salads away and brought new ones, same thing - full of small animals. I told him that they should probably check the whole salad in the kitchen and that we don’t want a new one (with fresh food that can happen, this is not the problem), BUT no one ever said “we are sorry about that” or anything, they didn’t offer any compensation, really poor way of taking care of the situation. This is a high price restaurant, if there are animals in the food you apologize and offer a compensation. We would not go there again. Also it was really cold inside.
