After a long afternoon of surfing… 6 of my friends along with my mother and I sat at a table at the restaurant already advising the host that only 3-4 of us were going to eat while the rest would have a dessert and a drink. To start off the restaurant was not full, maybe 5 tables were taken, which would be half or less of the seating capacity. From the start when the waiter came to take our orders and accommodate us, the service was bad. Everyone had an attitude towards us. Once we ordered….3 of us had ordered to eat a meal while the others drinks and dessert. The waiter had told the owner how not everyone was eating so then the owner had approached us saying how we would have to pay more for the service since its “not worth having a table that won’t all order a meal”, even the owner from the start had an attitude. Keep in mind the restaurant was not full at all since it was around 17:30. I had told the owner that we were all going to pay anyways and how they wouldn’t lose any money from us being clients…better than us leaving. He then continued to do the rest of his job. The waiters had given 2 baskets of bread with olives (which we knew they would charge for) and most of us ate the bread and olives…agreeing how this would be a minimal way of paying for “the extra service” they were going to charge us for. All of my friends were Spanish, excluding one friend and myself with my mom, but we all spoke fluent Spanish since we have been living here for over 5 years. The whole time we were trying to speak Spanish to the waiter and owner but they would reply in English, and later on the owner saying “We are in Spain so you have to speak Spanish”…which was very STUPID and SURPRISING for him to say since I was speaking Spanish the whole time with him…as if he was too ignorant to see that I was speaking Spanish. The food then had arrived, we ate and the food was quite good. When we finished the waiter gave us the bill and they charged as mentioned previously for the bread with olives (which they charge per person…not per quantity of bread that they serve) and charged 21 extra Euros for service! He charged 3.50 for 6 people! When 3/8 persons ate, and the others still paid for the bread and olives with their dessert and drink! So not only did we complain about this right away but I had also told the owner why he would charge 6 people…he replied “because you and your mom shared a dish so I had to charge one of you as well for the extra service”. This was ridiculous since my mom and I ordered a big dish with side of vegetables and 3 drinks! And now they are charging us too for the extra service!? We were outraged and he (the owner) then threatened to call police and we threatened as well to call police as this was unjust to charge 21 euros of service plus 13 euros for the bread (which we had agreed to pay)! As the arguing continued, he left to go eat saying “Estoy cansado de los guiris” meaning “I am tired of foreigners”! Keep in mind only 3 of us were foreigners (all of us residents) and we were all speaking Spanish to him…and the owner of a restaurant had the balls to say this! This was very disrespectful and if it weren’t for us “guiris” he wouldn’t have any business! My mom then tried to pay him for what we had plus bread charge without the extra 3.50 service charge...and he told her to leave his face. This was the owner!!! He then came back after eating and couldn’t look me or my mom in the eyes and only spoke to the Spanish friends of mine. He then told us to pay for whatever we had including the bread plus whatever “extra” we would pay for. We all paid for what we had plus an extra 3 euros for the service…since we couldn’t be asked to wait for the change. We then left. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone! Spanish, locals or foreigners! The waiter and owner were horrible! Especially the owner! He does not deserve to have any more clients after this! The worst restaurant experience I have ever had and possibly the worst experienced discrimination towards...
Read moreI will never go back to this restaurant and recommend that no other tourist ever goes back. The owner said he is tired of Guiris, an insulting name to tourists, or any foreigner...even those who live in Spain. We were a group of 8 people and not everyone ordered a dish, 3 did and the other 5 ordered only drinks and dessert. The owner got very upset and at the end he charged not only 1,60 per person for bringing bread and olives for 4 people but added another charge of 3,50 per person. When we complained and asked about this charge, he answered very aggressively about how we just need to pay it all or else he would call the police. We were speaking to him in Spanish as the group was either Spanish or others fluent in Spanish, however there was English speaking between each other, so the owner said, he is tired of Guiris and that he only wants us to speak in Spanish to him, he stated, "we are in Spain and you should all be speaking in Spanish", however we were speaking in Spanish with him. Then I went to pay him for the two of us deducting the 3,50, as we both ate and drank. He told me to get away from him as he was eating...get away and put on your mask...keep your distance. I simply wanted to pay as the others were struggling to see whether to call the police and file the complaint or not. Then I went back to him to let them know I want to pay as I need to leave. At this point I told him that all of us live here in mallorca, and we are not Guiris and that I would have this story published on the Mallorca Bulletin. He then sent a girl waitress to us who had no idea of what was going on. At least there was talking between one Mallorquin to another Mallorquin. Finally the owner came and discussed everything to the group who were being ridiculously charged for sitting there and dirtying his chairs as he explained, and agreed to let them make some deductions, so we can leave freely as the scheme was not very nice in his restaurant. He needs to see what life would be like without his...
Read moreI have been going to Lago Restaurant for years and it is a necessary stop during any stay in Mallorca! However, after last night's dinner, 2 out of 3 people whom I had dinner with, felt sick and spent the entire night up. We had the mixd grilled fish and the speciality of squid and black rice and unfourtunately the fish was not fresh nor entirely local (there was grilled salmon on the plate). The prices have gone up so the quality of the food needs to be guaranteed. The staff are very nice and the location is beautiful. I will be back but I will specifically ask for the fresh...
