Mesón Rampalay — Restaurant in Santander

We were disappointed with our experience at Meson Rampalay. The food was decent but not anything special - typical Spanish fare, prepared well but lacking in flavor.

The biggest issue we had was the language barrier and apparent upcharging. None of the staff spoke English, and there was no drink menu, making ordering difficult. When we received the bill, we were charged over 10 euros more than the listed menu prices, seemingly because we were foreign tourists. This left a sour taste in our mouths.

While the food was alright and the restaurant itself cozy, the lack of English, confusing bills, and feeling like we were ripped off as non-locals really colored our experience negatively. We won't be returning to Meson Rampalay unfortunately, and would caution other foreign visitors to clarify prices in advance to avoid surprises on the bill. With so many other excellent dining options in Santander, we'd suggest you try somewhere else for a better value...

I came here during my first Erasmus+ experience to have lunch on two consecutive days, I ordered fried potatoes with tomato sauce, fried eggs and sausages and, if I am not wrong, I also ordered a glass of beer (I don't remember every single detail). I had to wait a bit for the food, but it was worth it since it was super-tasty! The place is rather clean, the personnel is nice and available and the atmosphere is nice as well, you can feel you are in Spain! If you have luggages, you can keep them next to the table while eating. When I came there again to have lunch, the waiter/cashier was glad and happy to see me again! At a certain hour of the evening, they don't offer food anymore, so avoid coming there too late (I couldn't have dinner in there for this reason). Despite this small accident, I want to give five stars to...

Incredibile food, amazing service, unique atmosphere. We ordered different kinds of fish from clamshells to calamari and octopus and they were all amazing tasting, well cooked and served pretty fast. The drinks are also really good and the prices overall are on the lower side for the area. If you want to lunch or dine out something fishy this is the place to go. The restaurant is pretty average in the seating category on the inside but it also has a large area outside with lots of tables that are almost always filled with tons of people. Be careful to ask one of the bartenders for a table because there are many online reservations already made so you don't miss a spot...
