Bar María — Restaurant in Sella

Extremely busy on our visit. We booked our table in advance, thankfully. However... I feel so cheated by the whole unsavoury experience. It took 1 hour to be served! No menu, no prices. Only to be grossly overcharged at the end. No printed ticket, just a scribbled note on a slip of paper. For €25 per person, we were served a basic salad of lettuce; 4 slices of tomato, a few onion slices and 6 or 7 olives, swimming in oil, followed by 1 sepia (both dishes shared between the 3 of us). Our main dishes we ate independently, they consisted of 3 skinny lamb chops and some oily fries. We also had one bebida each. It just didn't cut it! The woman clearly struggled to calculate our check, she took an age to write it. I suspect she got it grossly wrong (intentionally?). We were an international table, couteous and conversing in Spanish throughout, all be it to varying degrees. I shan't return. Its quite obvious, from other reviews, that our experience is not a rarity. There are so many other eateries in Sella, which offer significantly better food with efficient, attentive and friendly staff. Particularly Ca Xaro in the plaza outside the church or Restaurant Isa i Toni further up the hill. There's also a pizzeria which I've yet to try. I've traveled to many countries, experienced good and bad in each of them. This is, by far, the worst yet. As others have stated on this site, the staff can be discourteous and the service tawdry, others have extolled the virtues! Perhaps our poor experience is only reserved...

Beim Betreten dieses Restaurants fällt sofort auf, dass ausländische Gäste hier nicht besonders willkommen sind. Zwar werden sie geduldet, aber die Bedienung erfolgt mit geringster Priorität. Uns wurde ein Tisch zugewiesen, doch mussten wir zunächst eine halbe Stunde warten, bis überhaupt jemand kam, um unsere Bestellung aufzunehmen. Nach der Bestellung dauerte es relativ lange, bis der Salat serviert wurde – der, nebenbei bemerkt, hervorragend war. Auch der Hauptgang, Lammkoteletts, ließ einige Zeit auf sich warten, war aber ebenfalls von ausgezeichneter Qualität. Um einen Kaffee zu bestellen, musste man förmlich einen vorbeilaufenden Kellner abfangen, da das Personal ausländische Gäste kaum beachtete. Wir bestellten zwei Kaffees, die nach weiteren dreißig Minuten kamen. Auch die Rechnung musste ich zweimal anfordern. Fazit: Das Essen ist zweifellos köstlich, und die Bedienung scheint für spanische Gäste zufriedenstellend zu sein. Für ausländische Gäste hingegen lässt der Service stark zu wünschen übrig.

Lo primero que llama la atención en este restaurante es que los extranjeros no son especialmente bienvenidos. Aunque se les tolera, se les atiende con la menor prioridad. Nos asignaron una mesa, pero tuvimos que esperar media hora hasta que alguien vino a preguntarnos si queríamos pedir algo para comer o beber. Después de hacer el pedido, pasó bastante tiempo hasta que llegó la ensalada, que, por cierto, estaba excelente. El plato principal, chuletas de cordero, también tardó en llegar, pero estaba igualmente delicioso. Para pedir un café, prácticamente había que interceptar a un camarero que pasaba sin prestar atención a los clientes extranjeros. Pedimos dos cafés, que llegaron tras otra media hora de espera, y la cuenta tuve que solicitarla dos veces. En resumen: la comida es sin duda exquisita y el servicio parece adecuado para los clientes españoles, pero para los extranjeros es...

I can’t rate the food because I haven’t eaten there. I came inside and the rude lady chewing gum loudly asked what I want. I also asked in English if they have „paella con mariscos”. She spoke with an arrogant way that they don’t have, that they only have paella with meat. I asked if they have menu. She said just „no” . So I left that place with company of the unfriendly look of the lady. I don’t feel like a welcome customer so I went to another place where I was treated...
