We have been to Albar quite a few times and each time we go it seems to get better and better. If you haven't been then you must go because it really is a diamond in the desert, its beautiful, from its look and feel to the drink, food and service, its brilliant.
When you get out of your car at the old water fuente for the village of El Pilar and walk up through their garden of tangerine trees that are laden with fruit, past the pond with beautiful coloured fish in that look really health, past an outside seating area and the noise of the water feature trickling outside the main door, you know you are going somewhere really nice.
Inside there is a really nice bar with a really nice full selection of drinks that most bars don't have, so if you want something special or want to try something different then have a little drink before sittind down to eat.
The food is really special, its that difficult to describe, you just have to try it and you will know what I mean. It's cooked in a wood burning oven that is on show in the kitchen and the warmth off this is very pleasant, the place really has a great feel to it.
The service has always been excellent, from serving us at the bar first with a drink, letting us know when our table is ready, to being attentive to us around the table, they really have got it right, its just the staff are to hand when you want them and that's how it should be.
Just a last little thing, this is a winter post, it's February now, you have to take a visit here at different times of the year because that's why it seems to get better every time you go, there's the smell of the blossom off the tangerine trees is awesome and outside areas, I'll leave that as a surprise.
I'll be...
Read moreFollowing our house purchase in Lubrín (10 mins away) Albar Restaurant was recommended to us by friends in the village ……… and what a fantastic recommendation ! From the moment you arrive and witness the tranquil surroundings you are captivated by Albar’s charm. We were very pleasantly greeted by Rachel (Proprietor) who provided excellent front of house service and shown to our table prior to taking our food and drinks order. The drinks were with us in no time and shortly followed by our food order , we ordered several dishes from the menu including a beautifully presented salad , croquettes, mushrooms etc , these were followed by two different highly delicious desserts and coffee . Myself and my wife enjoy eating out whenever we visit any country and whenever we can like to sample the different cuisines , and we can wholeheartedly state that this visit is well within the top 5 Venues that we have ever eaten in ! A very special mention also goes out Amanda the chef for an absolutely fantastic dining experience.
Please , please , please don’t take our word for it , visit yourself if you can …….. you will definitely not be...
Read moreThe place is beautifully kept with a lovely sunny terrace and friendly service. The 18€ Verdejo wine was good value. The food however was disappointing - the ribs which claim to be "fall of (sic) the bone" did fall off but the bones were completely dry and the meat tough; they came with a large portion of huge, pale chips. The 3 ribs per portion were meant to be cooked in "our" bbq sauce which turned out to be from Mercadona (we needed to check the ingredients for one of our party who suffers from a serious food allergy). The cheese/ham sharing plate for 13€ was out of packets and unfortunately, the promising-looking homemade pizza had a disappointingly tough base. The well-kept space, other reviews and prices led us to expect much more than what the reality of the food actually was. Our bill was 108€ for 3 people: 1 starter, 1 sharing plate, 1 pizza, 2 ribs, 1 dessert, 1 bottle wine, 1 glass each beer, wine, fizzy...
