Osteria Del Mare — Restaurant in Tarragona

We have been before a few times and was better before. Firstly they couldn't find our reservation, then found it. Table they sent us to was only set for 2 people and we were 3 people. One of the wine glasses was chipped. Had to ask to replace it. Food in small plates 6 courses which we love. Plates tasted good today, although choices not as good as previous times for us. Many cheese options on each course, so felt repetitive. Service was poor. Really let's the restaurant down. Staff were really really rushing about. Made the whole experience stressful and negative. Had to grab their attention to ask for more drinks. No one thought to ask each table how things were and if we needed anything. They squeezed too many tables into the restaurant and couldn't cope with them all. Very noisy table near us with a loud child. Made it 10 times worse. Shame and we will not be back...

I came across this restaurant while on a walk, I was interested in dining here and looked up the reviews on google. I noticed google said the restaurant was closed. I had my friend ask a waitress who was working outside if they were indeed open. The waitress responded in an aggressive and condescending tone saying “no me ves?!” (you don’t see me?!). She then went on to say some other stuff but I couldn’t catch exactly what was said. After this completely unprofessional interaction that was done in front of other shocked customers of the restaurant, I went inside to ask to speak to the manager. It turns out she is the manager! Incredible. She could have entirely avoided the interaction if she did her job of ensuring correct basic information was available to potential customers. Amazing place. We went for lunch over the Xmas week, and although they were already full they managed to squeeze us in. This didn't effect the level of excellent service or speed of getting our food. All 4 of us, my 10 Yr old daughter included, went for the taster menu, and I can honestly say I've never had such good value. We kept getting little plates to try in between courses too. What was lovely is how patient the waitress (possibly the owner?) was in explaining the food, and then even brought out an extra plate for my daughter who had picked herself an item she didn't like. Great setting and lovely inside too. We will definitely return if ever back, or even passing through...
