After reading a lot of reviews for Ca La iaia, we booked a table and were expecting good things. So let down. From the start, the waiter we spoke to didn't seem to find our booking (strange as it was the same guy we booked it with the evening previous) after eventually sorting it out, he pointed to our table and left us to seat ourselves. His grumpy mood didn't improve all evening. At least it wasn't just us though, he was like that with everyone... The food. Well, we both ordered the tasting menu. If the menu was to showcase their wares and the chefs skills, they've badly got it wrong. After the initially promising warm fresh bread roll and aioli, the fish soup was little more than watery fish stock with a couple of prawns floating in it for colour. The veal carpaccio was just boring and my anchovy and sardines looked and tasted like they were straight from a tin. The lemon sorbet was standard fare, but as it took an eternity to deliver the main course, the effectiveness had long since worn off. The Iberico pork main course tasted good but the accompanying sauce was a little bland. The lamb cutlets were a real disappointment. The anorexic lamb was cooked well enough, but just no meat of any substance anywhere to be found on my plate... the "handcut" chips piled in the middle of the plate were of the frozen tasting variety and despite the amount of oil they were swimming in, they were still all stuck together, due to being sat a while, I presume. The dessert, however, was the saving grace for the whole evening. The chocolate mousse, nice and smooth, went really well with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt. The Creme Catalana was also rather nice, the presentation was completed at the table with a hot iron that the waiter then proceeded to apply well to the sugar sprinkled atop the creme. Overall, wholly disappointed with the service, the quality and the lack lustre presentation...
Read moreNot sure why all the very good ratings are there - our opinion was rather neutral o disappointed. Seating outside is really nice, nothing fancy but nice. Service was ok and straight forward - friendly is different. Food was not OK for the price paid. We did have the Pata Negra Iberico and the filet steak medium/rare. Quality / taste of meat was below average. filet was between warm and cold and more rare than everything else. Both meats were almost zero seasoned. Vegetables were nature - no oil, butter or seasoning al at all, fries were „old“. Pepper sauce was below average but you could eat it, the other - I guess it was mushroom-sauce was bad / I mean really bad. What was good? Bread and allioli (with 3€ bit overpriced), wine / copa vino tinto Rioja, and the whiskey tarte. Side comment - we mentioned with our reservation twice that it‘s the birthday of my wife but no one even came and said / did something. So I assume they don‘t care. Net/net, disappointing experience for the class the restaurant wan‘t to play in - we will not come again and rather take other very good options in...
Read moreNice terrace but service slow and food experience was way below par. Albeit they might use good ingredients food had no taste. Tuna to be served rare as requested was cooked medium but besides this it had no taste or what so ever. Presentation of food icw with vegetables served did not do IT for what you might expect. Quite a disseapointment for a restaurant we have been before and know for quite Some years we wont go back anymore. Then 120 € for a starter each a glass of wine and just a burger and spaghetti for the kids without dessert even felt to me as a rip off for what you get. There are beter alternative here in this segment or for 80 € you have a three course for a family near the harbour of Moraira.less formal but beter value for money or goto an algas or cabana or more luxury to maisena. As i wat in many restaurants all over Europe this one...
